Blackberry should grow in your area. Also, not sure how you'd obtain them, but nettles are the worst in summer. They grow in VA, so I imagine they will grow in your AO.
Stuff like poison ivy won't work well, as it doesn't provide the immediate dissuasive effect. |

Holly is good, with the added bonus of being an evergreen.
Blackthorn would be an interesting option, and has the added benefit of being able to harvest sloes later, and eventually the wood for really tough walking sticks / clubs. |

Can you raise ground bees? Lord knows I’ve found those often enough playing paintball. They will certainly act as area denial.

Spanish Bayonet. Grows fast and NO one is getting through a dense planting.

Rose, cactus, potted plum trees. I am partial to the wild plum, some varieties have thorns that can get a few inches long. They are known to puncture tires and impale things that aren't paying attention

I have a very healthy respect to this day having been out of AZ for many years. Having grown up around OKC, cactus grows wild there but nothing like in AZ or TX. It’s that little tiny button looking cactus with thorns like fine hairs. It’s hell to pick out if you grab one. But not really an area denial type of thing. I think you’d have to work pretty hard to grow something like cholla or prickly pear there. |

Pyracantha is the answer to your problem. That stuff is nature's wrath incarnate.

I’ve planted a bunch of rotunda Hollie’s in section 8 housing. They always specified to be in front of windows, and we would put them around the fencing to discourage people from cutting the fence. They would still hang on the gates and break them often though

Came to suggest Pyracantha or Locust. Left with some really good additional options.
