Production of the first new armored vehicle that will replace the Army Vietnam Era M113 armored personnel carrier is now complete, manufacturer BAE Systems announced today.

The first Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle, or AMPV, rolled off BAE's production line as part of a 2018 low-rate initial contract to deliver up to 450 of the vehicles to the Army, according to a BAE news release.

China actually destroyed half their country with desertification so it just might work.

Needs the 40mm CTA gun.

Looks like an M113 with a bunch of bolt-on armor.  A heavy M113.

I wonder if the “spray everything inside with oil” mod comes standard on this one like it’s predecessor?

Wasn’t this what the Bradley was supposed to look like?

I loved the 113. Unless they made it lighter and faster, meh.

Isnt that what the bradley was supposed to be from the get go? A light, fast way to get troops to the front, no turret or missiles or anything

No. The Bradley was always an IFV with turret and ATGM launcher

These are for the heavy brigades, ambulances, mortar carriers etc. The Stryker will remain in the Stryker brigades.

Its a bradley hull. This is something that should would have happened in the early 90s if the wall hadnt fell. The 113 needed replacing then but money dried up.

Yep just a cosmetic change M113. I saw the Cmd Post carrier version and it's a M577a2 with armor plates no trim vane.  Just so you can carry a couple OE254, 4 radios, and maybe a mount to put a laptop and printer,. Then you load all the dog and pony crap for the TOC.

We still have 113s? Holy smokes.

I was so happy to trade that bucket in for a Bradley. That was three decades ago. I didn’t know we still had a use for them.

My first track was actually a M901 ITV.....a 113 with a turret.

Doctrine changed. And, understandably so. Mobility is everything. You need to be able to dismount infantry for them to fight, but you don't want to have to dismount infantry for them to fight.

Too late for the goofball 80s TV movie references. *sigh*

If Desert Storm and the subsequent OIF conquering and occupying of the entirety of Iraq didn't prove the validity of the IFV concept to the "Pentagon Wars" goofballs, I doubt any attempt to reason with the written word will.

"Just?"

The important thing is it's not a 113 hull, as many here seem to be implying.

This should have happened in the 1990s.

The M113A3 were still being rolled out in '89.  From what I was told by friends down the street in 2AD, they were pretty good.  The 1st Cav didn't get them until at least after fall of 89.

They were pretty good. They were also designed to get more years out of the 113 chassis. That was also 30 years ago!

Heavy forces should have standardized around Bradley hulls decades ago. But, it was out on the back burner for many reasons.

I think there were still Guard units with A2s when Sept 11th happened. It was a long drawn out fielding.
