Drive on, Gun bunny!
<–––– Former 13M I honestly thought you guys would all be phased out and working MLRS Ammo platoons by the late 90s. Obviously, I had no idea what I was talking about. Those new Howitzers look awesome! |

I woulden't want to pay for the ammo. It's actually only a few hundred dollars per round. |

I wonder how many green bag and white bag charges are still out there. We've been shooting the MACS charges lately. And us in the National Guard are usually last to get on to the new stuff.

I could sure go for some wolf pussy right about now.
- Field Artillery, 1997 to present. |

Old 13B here. I was always 8" SP, M110A2. First at Ft. Hood, and then in Werthiem.
50 pounds of blackpowder (charge 5, White bag) without flash suppressors leaves an impression in your mind you never, ever forget. Shot Out Bitch's. |

Awesome! I was an 0844 (FDC) in the Marines (1981-1987). My first 4 years were with an 8" unit. BOOM baby!

Who else here has shot killer junior with a 1 second fuse
I did but only once. |

I think our Arfmember, who can deliver packages in 30 min or less, is the King of Battle.
Maybe the God of Battle |

Who else here has shot killer junior with a 1 second fuse I did but only once. A crew in my battalion had a round burst right out of the muzzle. They all survived. The cannon did not. |

Does your unit already have them? Hell no. I just pulled up a Paladin image to post. We're still in the one's we've been in since late 90's. We did have the AFCS's updated, but ours aren't nearly as pretty as that one. |

Former Fire Support Officer, Fire Direction Officer, and Battery XO for towed 105's (M101). Fire Support was the best, calls for fire and CAS!! Artillery one of the best all-around areas for knowing what eveyone else is doing.
Cool pictures. |

Forgive me for knowing absolutely zero about artillery rounds - but how much of that round actually gets fired through the barrel? I assume that since it's 155mm the projective is about 6" in diameter, which leads me to believe it's "just the tip"?

Not sure what you're asking...If you look up to colonelklink's post with the picture that has D505 on it? That is a 155mm illum round––the whole thing goes downrange. |
