Austin TX is a Stargate portal to California

Yep, I lived there for 20 years.  I didn't vote enough in the local elections, so I guess I was part of the problem; but when I did I voted against the idiots who supposedly represented me in the local government there.  Glad I got out when I did, it's on the express-commuter-train-light rail route to becoming Baltimore.  Living in the big Texas cities has become a nightmare; I wouldn't live anyplace there with a population over 250k.

Naw but don’t come here often. Run one or two jobs here every year or so. It’s gotten worse even from a few years ago it seems like.

I just can’t get over how dirty everything is. It’s like people just suddenly stoped cleaning.

Get in/ Get out, watch your six. On the Drag, there is a good military surplus store - The Quonset Hut. No guns or ammo.

Thankfully Austin Shitty Limits was in town when we were there for MotoGP, so we stayed out in the Cedar Park area. That was decent.

Indeed.
Show me a city run by liberals that isn’t a shit hole.
I guess their idea of a utopian paradise is open sewers and homeless, with gang violence thrown open for good measures.

I never understand, is there a reason why no one has a good lawn ? The city looks like Fresno - bad lawns, no flowers.

I remember one of our local AM stations in Birmingham, AL carrying a syndicated "progressive" radio show out of Austin. "Hightower's Chat-N-Chew" I think. That was 30 years ago. That shit was like listening to Radio DU, if there was such a thing. .

The chant, even back then, was "Keep Austin Weird". What you saw, OP, was three decades of weird piling up.

Get away from downtown and the major highways, and out to the WEST, it's not so bad.

Idk. I’m out in Wimberley. I love my lawn.

Austin and Fresno, not so much. Unless Terrytown. They pay lots for lawn irrigation.

Austin has taken it to a whole other level though.

I’ve had colleagues fly in from other liberal shit holes, and even they are shocked by how bad Austin is.

They turned the nice lawn at my grandparents home off of twin oaks drive  into a zeroscape typical lib hippie look.  Hell the house might have fallen apart by now, built back in the 40s. I remember the street being so narrow because the trees have grown into the street.

I went to Mcbride's. Yeah, it was tiny, hardly any ammo. The staff sort of cold-eyed me. I wasn't looking at the quail guns.

They always had cool old stuff you don’t see anymore or can’t find. I bought a garand for $700 that was back in 2009. Parking sucks!
That intersection is dangerous too.

No cool old stuff now. A few boxes of C&R era ammo. No 54r or 8mm. Deer and Quail guns. Some pistols, but GT had better prices.
I was disappointed.

I was in Austin about 3 years ago. I stayed on the west side, where the tech industries are. It's been rumored that Austin is the next Silicon Valley. That might explain the nasty vermin that litters the streets.

Dead lawns, no flower beds, and not many trimmed trees. Looks ratty. Like Fresno.

We are in agreement with your timeline.   Lived  there 27 years.  Left last year for Dripping Springs.  Love it and do not miss Austin one bit.

Cant believe how different it is in Austin every time I have to drive in.  Really sad.
