Quoted: Wholly shit! Based on the OP & follow-up post: -Man has his face ripped OFF by bear -Man shoots bear with revolver once and kills it -Man lives with face or bone structure turned to ground beef -Man has reconstructive surgery to get a face back -Man has bear skull, bullet, brass & revolver as souvenirs That sound about right?... ETA: Seems that man did not shoot & kill the bear, (2) other men did Amazing, none the less... View Quote He missed his shot at the bear, had a failure to chamber on the follow up. His son shot it off him then got him back to medical help. He was then airlifted out, while giving the pilots instructions on getting out of the mountains. He made it to the hospital and made it through the reconstruction with no anesthesia or pain killers. The pics of him and his son in the gun store are only a few days after the attack. He's a badass on another level. |

Yes, this happened several years ago on a spring bear hunt, along the Denali Highway. I know the nurse that was working in E.R when he was brought in. Yes they had their hands full taking care of him!!!!!

Holy shit.
Those surgeons are fucking gods. They call female soccer players heroes. Those guys are hero’s. |

I would not have thought he survived based on the first post.
Damn Dude is a badass and his surgeons must have had some serious skills. |

I'm going to go ahead and guess that the guy was not a pussy to begin with.

The photos are definitely gruesome, it didn't shock me that much though because I have seen worse believe it or not...There were photos leaked of the damage that the miami cannibal did to Ronald Popo and it's worse than that, and this is a animal vs a supposed "human" who did more damage in miami.
The plastic surgeon however is much better in this case, it's hard to believe it's the same man. |

Quoted: I wonder how cold it was and if that helped limit the bleeding. When I worked in the wood products industry I saw pictures of some very bad chainsaw kickback facial injuries that people survived, but damn, this one takes the cake... View Quote Drop in core body temperature inhibits coagulation, think cold transport of donor organs or accidental amputations... I always wondered why some IFAKs had space blankets, every degree of bodyheat lost is 15% increase to clotting time. |

There is a reason the scientific name for a Grizzly is Ursus Horribilis

Pic of "gun store" was not a gun store. That is Diamond D Holster shop in Wasilla, AK. The son is wearing one of their holsters.
Nice folks. |

Holy f@#&, that needed a double extra large GRAPHIC warning. I did not expect anything that bad. That poor man. Can't believe he survived.

Definitely learned my lesson about heeding warnings on thread titles today. Yikes.

Quoted: I'm going to go ahead and guess that the guy was not a pussy to begin with. View Quote That is Glenn Bohn (not Wes Perkins as the first article posted suggested). I suggest listening to the hunting Collective Podcast for the full story but some highlights. 1. He rode on the back of a snowmobile for like 30 miles to get back to the lodge. The wind peeled the flesh back more but he pretty much told his son to just keep going. 2. They forced the medivac to take them to a smaller hospital because of a crazy family history with the major AK hospital. 3. Due to religious beliefs he refused all painkillers. The surgeon put him back together with just local anesthetics. |

Wow, lucky he never shot a black bear, the riots would be off the charts and he'd be charged with a hate crime.

Holy Fuck! So, wait.... old man gets confronted by a giant bear, scuffles with said bear who proceeds to turn his face into hamburger, then he shoots the bear, and stops to pose for a fucking photo op!?! That's fucking epic. And, holy shit - that's one hell of a plastic surgery job.

Quoted: Guy rolled up to bear on his snowmobile. Bear was like "hey guy, fuck you!" Guy was like "no u" Bear was like "ur mom" Guys said "no ur mom" Bear said "say that to my face!" Guy said "come at me bitch I'll give you a free shot!" Bear took free shot Guy shot bear just above right orbital bone. Bear died. Guy posed for pictures and cut bears head off. Guy went to hospital some time later. Doctor was like "you're going to need stitches sir" Guy got stitches and went home to drink beer and polish his new bear skull. View Quote Excellent summary! |

Quoted: You did give a graphic warning. I thought he died for sure after that mauling. I would be wearing a bear claw necklace from that bear after surviving that ordeal. Wow. View Quote Scrolling down seeing the dead bear bleeding. I was thinking to myself that doesn't look too graphic. Then scrolled and saw the missing face and immediately realized the dead bear was not the graphic part. FUCKING WOW!!! |

So the old man was hunting bear, fucked up, but the old mans son killed the bear while the bear was trying to teach the old man a lesson ?

The things people do while in shock are amazing.
The old guy was sitting on his snowmobile looking around with the good eye I've seen guys fold up and cry for an ambulance after breaking a toe, but I say if your face is gone you get a pass on keeping your composure. |

Not that I'm against a small tuck in the ear and squeeze sidearm either. Or just use bear spray! |

Holy fuck...I thought “hmmm, hunting thread” and then BAM! That dude had some amazing doctors apparently.
