Ice cream sandwiches were my favorite when I was the ice cream man, many years ago.

Technically not a "sandwich" but check out Dairy Queens "BUSTER BARS".

One of the very few things I miss about California is the It's It ice cream sandwich. This! http://www.macandchris.com/images/6-15-05%20its%20it.jpg You can order a case of them online for only $22 . Of course the shipping is $65. I'm kinda' that way with real sourdough...3 bucks a loaf, Fed-Ex is $50. The bread gets frozen and keeps me going for about 5-6 months. |

Epicurious did their own taste test.
Epi Top Pick: Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Sandwich ($3.99 for a box of six) Pros: The creamy ice cream with real vanilla flavor and the moist, spongy cakelike cookie won raves from the testers. "The ice cream is so fluffy and smooth!" said one editor. "The vanilla specks are not just for show, the ice cream tastes like it's made with a real vanilla pod; very natural," said another. Cons: Thin in comparison to other competitors. First Runner-Up: Nestle Super Sandwich ($2.50 per bar) Pros: All editors agreed that this ice cream sandwich's 2:1 ice cream–to-cookie ratio was just right. Tasters also loved the incredibly creamy, milky ice cream and the coffee bean color and cocoa flavor of the cookie. "A masterpiece," commented one editor. Cons: Cookie is a bit dry, according to several judges. |

Another vote for It's-It.
Still pretty much limited to CA and HI. |

You can actually cut the carton into section so when you peel the section you are eating the rest can be used to keep the ice cream in the sandwich. |

Any time we have a "Best" food or restaurant thread it always devolves into people cheering on a small local brand with limited distribution or locations. That no one else has ever heard of unless they too lived in the aforementioned minuscule distribution area. I swear it never fails.

Been in a Klondike rut as of late. The Klondike Oreo is pretty good.

These are sold at Wal-Mart. I am not sure how much more readily available something can get. But Mayfield, like many wonderful things is not available everywhere and not available at all in areas totally overrun with commie pinkos up in yankeedom. http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/07/52/43/23/0007524323407_500X500.jpg View Quote I will check them out. |

The only reason I know what some of those things are is I have traveled. I contend Hofmann hot dogs are the best hot dogs ever made.they started in Syracuse, NY more than a hundred years ago IIRC. They have been available by mail order for at least a decade. Only recently have they begun a push to go truly national with a partnership that includes people like Jim Boeheim (SU basketball coach). In a couple years thy might truly be a national brand. So until then I wouldn't answer Hofmann if asked what readily available hot dog is the best. I honestly am not sure what I'd say because everything else sucks ass. |
