Boston easily.I don’t know if any band had as many hits off just one album much less their first album.

Kinda sticking with the '90s grunge/alt rock, Sixteen Stone by Bush is a banger.  Everything on that one holds up well today, imo.

Speaking of 90s alt. Live's Throwing Copper was awesome. Not sure if it was their first album or not though.

It was truly sublime. Very nearly perfect.

But, I recognize they were a studio band. While they could make fantastic recordings (which is what we're talking about) they could not reproduce it live because of how much overlay and processing they did in the studio.

Sure made a damn enjoyable album, regardless of how they got there.

It was their third album.  Mental jewelry was #2 .  Also an awesome album.  I have actually never heard their first one.

The fact that Billie Eilish accomplished the same thing, gives me pause and questions the credibility of the Grammys.

can think of two…

The Grammys have been a complete farce since 1989.

I’d submit this one for a top to bottom great first album for the 90’s…

Queensryches debut album was The Warning, the EP demo is what got them noticed and signed.

Lots of right answers in this thread (good thread, OP). Plenty of bands who had plenty of good releases had their first as their best. With that, I would like to add Tears For Fears - The Hurting. I can probably add others, but may watch a movie instead.

The River Runs Red by Life of Agony has my vote. Right now, they are my most listened to artist. Saw them 2 weeks ago perform the entire album.
