I don't remember any other president being in such terrible danger or having it talked about so much.

Sure, but who needs to know how you voted, when you'll get put on their "list of disloyals" if you've ever:
-registered as a Republican
-posted a big meany tweet in response to one of their pet issues
-been photographed at ANY event they deem "wrong"
-donated to any Reps
-donated to any group of "undesirables" (gun groups, pro-LEO, religion that they deem "extreme", etc)

I'm sure that's what Top. Men. are doing right now - feverishly googling "First Last" + "MAGA" OR "Trump" OR "gun" OR "freedom" OR "back the blue", etc...for all 25000 troops on the ground. Then again, I'm sure Google + FB + Twitter have all the analytics pre-packaged for them.

Sorry, but this is not new. In my 22 years of service the POTUS visited my post twice. Both times, the brass made sure we either had no ammo or no ammo AND no bolts in our M16s.

Be honest, if you were the Secret Service, would you let large numbers of unvetted people with guns and live rounds near the POTUS?
