A Silicon Valley group backed by billionaires said it's acquired all the land it needs to build a utopian city in Northern California, after quietly buying more properties in the past month.
Flannery Associates LLC, the company behind the California Forever project, acquired at least seven more land parcels totaling about 814 acres in Solano County in October, according to county records. The company now owns more than 53,000 acres in the area after some parcels traded hands where it plans to create a walkable, green community they say would generate thousands of jobs. "With regards to future purchases, except for a few remaining properties that Flannery has under contract and will close on in the coming weeks, Flannery has assembled all the land it needs and does not anticipate making any additional purchases," the company said in a statement. The investor group is led by Jan Sramek, a former Goldman Sachs trader, and backed by tech moguls like former Sequoia Capital Chairman Mike Moritz, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and venture capitalist Marc Andreessen. They've spent more than $800 million scooping up land for the project, a buying spree done extremely discreetly over several years which was first revealed in late August by the media. The project has since faced criticism from local officials and residents who fear the impact of their plans on the environment, local agricultural economy and for the security of the nearby Travis Air Force Base. moar |

If they're at all worried about DEI their Utopia won't be for long.
|
|
Gosh I hope they will be including lots of low income housing in their utopia.

Does 'walkable' mean they'll build sidewalks between the tents?

I can’t wait to see ED-209 enforcing the law |

Ownership of the land doesn’t mean that they can just develop it how they want. Aren’t zoning and permits a thing— especially in CA?
|
|
If it doesn't have dozens of open machine gun ranges, off-roading courses and publicly accessible race tracks, can it really be called a Utopia?

Once it “opens,” this should be the new shipping location for Texas to send the illegals from the border (not boarder.)

If all the hard-leftists move there, the people in the rest of the state will applaud.

Water, power, sewage, schools, etc. don’t think you’re gonna build something that size and NOT get some kind of government service. I can see heads exploding at California EPA, or some other type government agency. But, who knows? They might have done their homework, before acting on their plans. |

Seems they want to emulate this movie

I wonder what the excuse will be when they fail at making their "utopia." Should be an interesting experiment.

House homeless, house illegals, house low income. It’ll be a sanctuary for all!
Hippies did this shit in the 60’s. I grew up on what was damn near one in the 80’s. Fake Indians, hippies, artists, ex con drug dealing AB bikers. We had it all! |

Didn't read the article.
Does anyone remember some of the cults that tried that in the 70's? We had one local here(don't remember their name) they lasted a few years, then Poof gone. Don't know for sure but I assume they just kinda integrated back into society. Utopian society.....Some animals will still be more equal than others. Roy |

They have enough money and power to push thru any development they desire. Would be nice to see CA tell them, "You have to have a minimum of 25% of housing slated for the underserved and another 25% for those who wish to live in tents. And no you cannot group it all together in a corner. The underserved shall be free to set up their homes wherever their hearts desire"
That place is going to have 24/7 security guarding it. Oh you might be able to enter during the day to work but you SHALL be gone by a certain time. I predict sections within that will have guarded communities that do not allow the commoner to enter |

I am sure their plan is to incorporate as it's own city, meaning building permits etc are just their construction firm employees filling out the needed paperwork to be approved by their own city employees. It's how the Mission Viejo city development, and many others since then, were done.
My question about this new city is where are they going to get the necessary water supply from? The Colorado river is over allocated, and California is already stealing more water than they have water rights, so where is this new California city going to get a water supply? |

Good. Hopefully this pops the real estate bubble in California and they can’t take their equity to Arizona anymore.

Didn't they buy up a bunch of land around to Travis AFB? If so, the AF should transfer an F-35 squadron and any and all remaining C-5A/Bs (if there are any left) to Travis. We could see if their utopia comes with ear plugs.

I hope they build a nice bus stop so we can ship illegals there wholesale.

It’s like buying all the survival gear you’d ever want, and not knowing how to use any of it.
You got the land, that’s expensive but easy. Now what you going to do with it? |
|
If they have all that money available, the state should take most of it.
Special taxes and all that. It's the California Way! |
|
unless they build a wall and discriminate like crazy this will fail epically.
