Well, the average age of non-craft beer in inventory on shelf’s is 6w old.  Time in brewery waiting on shipment.  Time in the distributor’s warehouse.  Time on the store shelf.  Plus all the transport time thrown in.

And, the average light beer is shelf stable unrefrigerated for 4mo (bottle) to 6mo (can).

That means that we are 6-8 weeks away from tens of millions of dollars of unsold inventory that will just have to be destroyed.  Because if they don’t destroy it, and sell it…people will then drink even shittier beer than normal and it’d ruin what little chance they have of a recovery.  Can’t claw your way out of the depths of despair only to then sell your customers skunky beer.

I drank a bottle of Miller that said best buy Aug 2022, it was in a basement kept in the dark. Am I gonna die?

Nah, it just wouldn’t taste as crisp and fresh as a new one in a back to back tasting.

A local convenience store has BL tall boys on sale 50% off.  They are not in the cooler but stacked in plastic bins in the isles.  I have never in my life seen beer advertised half off.

I don't know how Houston Intercontinental Airport maintains the potent piss smell in all the terminals, but a shit-ton of skunked Bud Light could be just the thing they need. Send it all there.

I hope AB goes BK.

This has empowered a large portion of the U.S. buying public who have long believed our voices were being silenced.

Let the reverberations begin and I hope it scares the shit outta some off these woke corps.

Kelloggs needs-to-be next.

Send to to the Russians.  Once all their troops are good and drunk the Ukes can attack and win the war quickly.

Oh, wait, it would have to have alcohol in it for that to work....

Thinking same thing.   Current on shelf and in warehouses approaching best buy date.

 Big sales coming?

 And production numbers at present.

  What to do.

If I was a BL drinker I think I'd buy it at 50% off to help out the store owner, assuming it's a family owned local store.

FYI: In NJ we have to buy from a liquor store, no beer or wine in supermarkets here.

Additionally, all the heavy discounting you see popping up anchors the price significantly lower than they are used to asking.

My BIL is pretty pissed about the whole thing.

He works at the brewery in Houston and loves him some overtime.

AB is not letting anyone work OT until sales are back up.

I asked him if they are required to wear dresses now.

He just said he's glad he's close to retirement.

This is precisely why you saw the news story of AB execs having a recent conference call with their distributors. No one wants to be stuck with millions of cases of beer that is past it's best buy date.

Distributors are pissed that they have all this inventory they can't move and AB execs know the longer this drags on, the worse it gets. They may need to slow or suspend bottling at some facilities and or even lay off workers. Makes no sense to keep chugging along at current manufacturing capacity hoping that this will blow over, particularly when they have doubled down on stupidity.

They should:

1) suck it up buttercup and take the loss; and reimage themselves

by doing the following:

2) Give it away to Servicemen Clubs nationwide for free
3) Have pretty bikini clad women (Bud Girls) photographed with the GI/Marines/Sailors/Airmen
4) Promote it as the beverage of the Armed Forces

I didn't think that carbonated water could go bad. Anyone remember that episode of king of the hill when the guys go get their beer from Mexico snd then get the shits and it turns out there was soap in it from the manufacturing process. The beer company had to recall a shitload of beer and issue an apology publicly. This situation with budlight is way worse

That might work and they could play off of the patriotism of it for the ad campaign.

Unfortunately, their DEI, CEI, and ESG scores would take a big hit so they won't do it.

Guess it's time for them to quadruple down and keep on pretending it never happened.
