I had a rescue cat who fell from our 5th floor apartment onto pavement. He survived and then jumped over a 6 foot wooden fence to get away.
A visit to the ER vet showed slight bruising and a couple of broken claws. He lived until he was 18 even after being diabetic and losing almost all his teeth. I guess he was pretty badass. |

Had a cat in the 80’s.
He was outside. Tried to get him back inside the apartment. He looked at me, turned around and jumped off a 3rd story staircase. He opened up his arms and feet and stretched out like a flying squirrel. Landed, ran into the woods. Guess he had a hot date. Came back that evening. Purred and spent the night like nothing happened. Remember seeing him with a field mouse in his mouth. Ate it. Also remember he was hanging out outside with us. Dog came by. He freaked and climbed 3 stories of a brick wall. Once the dog was gone, he clawed his way back down. That cat was a ninja. |

I’m on a cat fb group for the nyc area and it’s not uncommon to see a gofundme type of post for an injured cat that fell from a high rise.
I’ve read cats make a sort of parachute effect, like the cat in this video, that can slow their descent enough they can survive. Cats are amazing. |

There's one dude, I can't remember his name, spends almost every hour outside of his day job just hunting these little fools and trapping them. Guy was leading a voting contest for a segment to feature his work on the Communist News Network... and they snubbed him for some unrelated bullshit. I would expect nothing less from those fucks. |

Quoted: Cat probably started the damn fire View Quote Most cats aren't arsonists. Most, but not all. Attached File Glad the kitty made it. Pretty sure our one barn cat Hughbert, aka Huey, aka Hugebert, aka Hugey, aka Elephant Seal, probably wouldn't have fared so well. |

Someone actually did a test of that and found out that cats had a higher survival rate at 5 stories and above. It had something to do with them relaxing and spreading out their legs.

Cats really are pretty awesome animals. What other mammal can do that, other than maybe a flying squirrel?

Quoted: So apparently cats can survive a fall at terminal velocity. They did a study, which was throwing cats off a building...the survival rate was high...science View Quote The higher up they were the better they fared. It was theorized that the ones that fell farther had more time to relax before impact. They hit terminal velocity pretty fast. |
