I have removed threads on CavArms and replaced them with this one, at their request.
It is a statement prepared by their attorneys. Please, do not post any inflammatory comments here. There will be a time when we can express our frustrations but this is not the best time to do that. Here is their statement: For many years Cavalry Arms Corporation (“Cavalry”) has strived to manufacture and sell quality firearms to the public. We have always strived to put our experience from the field into making quality products that the average shooter can afford, while still bringing innovations to the industry. We are dedicated to providing the best possible products and customer service to the firearms market. On February 27, 2008, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a federal search warrant on the business premises of Cavalry and on the private residence of its CEO, Shawn Nealon. We have immediately engaged legal counsel to resolve this matter with the federal government. Cavalry is confident that all it conduct has been lawful in carrying out its business activities. The Government has yet to share with the company details of the investigation or the cause precipitating the search warrant. Cavalry is cooperating with the federal investigation. To date no accusations of wrongdoing have been filed against Cavalry or any of its employees regarding alleged illegal activity. While we are waiting for a resolution to this situation, Cavalry Arms will remain open for business and continue firearms operations under its Manufacturer’s FFL. Unfortunately, the federal government seized business files, computers, and inventory from Cavalry during the execution of the search warrant. As a result, Cavalry has been forced to reconstitute its resources, and we expect to be fully operational in the near future. In the meantime, we still carry firearm parts and emergency medical products for sale. We appreciate your patience, and we thank everyone who has shown us support during this turbulent time. |

Thanks.
So what day are we on now? Oh ya' posted while I was writing. |
My God, day 50 and no one is any the wiser as to why this happened
Looks like the new wave of gun control against dealers has failed, and they're going straight for the manufacturers now.

I am ordering one in the morning. |
Only when convenient, obviously. |
Jesus... 50 days
Why won't ATF tell them WTF they're being investigated for. It's not like Cav can tamper with anything.. |
Where? I read it twice and didn't see any news. |
All about CYA. Of course, CavArms can and should get their lawyers to put legal pressure on BATFE to reveal the details. It's going to look real good in court if CavArms' lawyers are unable to prepare an adequate legal defense because the BATFE isn't providing relevant details. I wonder where the FOIA comes into this. |

It's too bad that since a corporation is a "person", that seizure of significant assets or "parts" of that person couldn't be remedied by a writ of habeas corpus.
Let the guns go or explain why you won't. Seizure of assets without charges seems like punishment before the fact. |
Every day I get more and more upset about this whole situation.
tag in case this turns into a news thread
I will order a med kit tomorrow |
Yeah that doesn't do much for you if they have never charged you with anything |
Even if no one at Cav Arms is ever charged with a crime, the financial losses due to legal fees and the civil asset forfeiture could be enough to drive them out of business. Not many companies have the ability to recover from that large a loss of cash and inventory.
It's called the Patriot Act... |
Oh, there is a reason. Harassment of small business gun manufacturers for the purpose of creating an atmosphere of "fear and loathing" within the arms manufacturing community. |
anyone think that this may be a plan of theirs to start bankrupting the firearms industry? Who's next? Bushmaster, Colt, Barrett, DPMS? With all of the corrupt A-holes running this country it would not be much of a surprise.
I'm trying to understand why ones right to a speedy trial is not being violated here. Yes I know no charges have been filed but there is no reason for this type of delay. Either the ATF has what it needs and presses charges or it doesn't and all property is returned, lawyer fees and expenses are paid by the gov and the warrant is quashed.
... Here to offer my continued support for the good families of Cavalry Arms Corp.
The AFT spent two years ""investigating" a simmilar case. End result no charges, company out of business. |
Guess I better go browse their website for needed items. Hang tough guys. |
This is absolutely unbelievable.
What is less surprising? The ATF's operating style? Or the media's inital circus during the raid, and now silence as the ATF attempts to put CavArms out of business by way of their detrimental and inept investigative process? |
I cannot imagine the stress they're living with. Keep the faith.
So the ATF can keep all of their inventory permanently without charging them with a crime? |
Asking firearms owners/dealers what they think about the BATF is like asking fire hydrants what they think about dogs.
The biggest thing that pisses me off, is why haven't they been told at least WHAT crime they supposedly are being investigated for. |
... pretty much, yeah ... Civil asset forfeiture can happen to you too, except you won't have the luxury of publicity. You would just just suffer alone, unnoticed |
And what's even worse is that many of the firearms the BATF stole (yes, this was theft as far as I'm concerned) were owned by employees and customers. The customers (at least) have nothing to do with this situation, but since their items were in CA's possession at the time of the raid, they were stolen along with their other inventory. Pretty sure those customers can't do anything about it, either, until this is resolved. COC hinders me from saying what I wish would happen to the ATF. |

DAY 51
I replied to one Of McCains "send money for the campaign" a reply with something to the effect of : "show me what you can do for gun owners and ATF's practices, like CavArms in your own state....." NO reply from them No reply to my concerns = Go get your contribution some-freaking-where else! |
What i find bad is that there seems to be no alternate course of action. I guess what i mean, is who do you ask for help in a case like this? Who else can you go to in the gov that could give some answers, or at the least look into the issue?
Can the states elected fed. officials look into the issue? I'm sure someone has contacted them at this point. It's just disappointing to see this happening. If some kind of charges were at least given, or even a reason for the raid, that would be something. But for no info, well that just isn't right. |
CavArms ... looking at the list of other big AR manufacturers I can't help but notice that most all of them have Federal, State, or Local LE contracts. Did you have any ongoing contracts with military or law enforcement?
The rays getting through my tinfoil hat make me think you shouldn't have based the business on selling military style weapons to civilians. |
