Quoted: An F-15 at 98000 feet is as useful as a five pound rock in your hand against a fly 30 yards away. Flights above 60000 feet require pressure suits to guard against sudden decompression. The flight requires careful manipulation of the controls and an eagle eye on airspeed. The ceilings reported in the manufacturer spec sheets are for fan boy consumption, not practical or useful operation of the airplane. I almost forgot - Oooooh, "fast movers"! lol View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: So some sources are saying these balloons are 80-120k feet up, well out of fighter jet ranges. Are these people just trying to bait us into bringing out something they consider super secret to shoot them down? Fucking news media "Well out of fighter jet ranges" Mah dude. That thing is easily in sidewinder range. The eagle (never mind the F-22) has been over 98,000 feet. An F-15 at 98000 feet is as useful as a five pound rock in your hand against a fly 30 yards away. I thought someone said it was 22s circling. And I don't know how they know shoot down is imminent. View Quote They don’t, it’s just a bunch of people talking out their a**. I also almost wish ADS-B tracking through websites wasn’t available to the public. People who have no idea what’s going on (which includes myself) filter to see only military aircraft and are all speculating about why some fighter jet is flying this way or that way. Every damn thread with airplanes has people posting tracks like they have half a clue to what’s actually going on. |

This whole sorry episode is an embarrassment to our Country. What country would be deterred from attacking after seeing this. The conduct of this administration is deplorable.

Quoted: I imagine they are going to shove an Aim-120 up it’s ass. As long as they get all the other air traffic down. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I drove out to MB just to come to a Chinese restaurant of all things with one of my daughters. LOL I'm trying to get on an image hosting site to post my pictures of the jets loitering and taking lines at the thing but the one I use is fucking gone down for me right now conveniently I imagine they are going to shove an Aim-120 up it’s ass. As long as they get all the other air traffic down. I'm in doors now but I wouldn't be surprised if they dump it once it's over the ocean and they have some boats near. It's basically clear now I believe. |

Even if they put an entire drum of 20mm into it, would enough gas come out to bring it down in a reasonable amount of time?

From where I sit it looks like they keeping 3 jets close in a circle and a couple more out quite a ways as backup or maybe next shift as they run low on fuel.
There isn't shit else up there. Nothing civilian running around. |

It’s over water, right? I’m guessing that’s what they’re waiting for.

Quoted: Even if they put an entire drum of 20mm into it, would enough gas come out to bring it down in a reasonable amount of time? View Quote It depends on the weight of the payload, mainly. The M61-A1 in the Phalanx would rip hundreds of holes in a "killer tomato" floating out at sea at ~500 meters, and it would take quite a while to finally deflate. The tomato is about 10 times smaller, and un-weighted. Add weight to an airborne balloon, and the escape of the balloon gasses and resultant drop in elevation goes up exponentially. |

They'll shoot it down over the ocean.
Why? So they can claim that it can't be recovered. Why? Because if they can recover it, they could possibly determine how much intelligence the balloon collected and transmitted back to CHY-NAH. Why? Because that would be another huge embarrassment to the potato administration. Every political opponent would claim they should have shot it down earlier and there would be even more congressional hearings. Now we will never officially know or be told what it was doing over US airspace. |
|
That didn’t seem to difficult. Should’ve done that off the coast of Alaska
