These stories have been mentioned here more than a few times and have seemingly been accepted as truth that Chris Kyle said these things.
I've not finished the book and was curious where the origins of these began? Are they mentioned in the book or is this a second hand claim? I'd appreciate any insight as to how these two claims began and why they're being spread as truth now. |

I'm curious as well, I've not read the book but mentioned it to a co-worker that has and he said those incidents are not in the book.
|
|
I'm curious as well. If I had to guess I'd say they originated from ARFCOM GD.

This should turn out derptastic from the Chris Kyle haters.
With their "HE LIED ABOUT THESE THINGS SO NONE OF THE OTHER STUFF HE DID MATTERS!!!!!!!!" |
|
SEALs were in NOLA after Katrina so that could be true. Not sure about the car jacking thing.
|
|
They aren't in his book. I don't know about anything at the Superdome but I think he mentioned the car jacker thing in some interview. I could be wrong about that.

It's been said that the claims were made in the book and I've seen it said here that he did not make these claims but they came from another source. I'd appreciate any insight either way. |

Those incidents are not mentioned in American Sniper. I just finished reading it for the second time.

I thought I remembered the car jacking thing being in his book. Or maybe it was mentioned in a different book by one of the SEALs that had them out about the same time. I can't remember now.

The carjacking story is in Luttrell's book. The NOLA story was told to Brandon Webb by Kyle and published on his website, then later removed.
It's not a mystery, didn't take more than a couple of minutes to find. |

View Quote So the New Yorker, Washington Post and some guys blog are the possible origins? All of the claims that he said these things also appear to be made after he was dead. |
|
I've never heard about the Superdome incident, but the carjacking story was in the book "Service" by Marcus Luttrell.
|
|
The car jacking story is not in Kyle's book. It is however in Lutrell's second book.

So apparently some guy named Michael J. Mooney made it all up and put it in his book about chris kyle

Marcus Luttrell's SERVICE is where the carjacking story was put into print and I don't know if Chris ever said it was true or not. As for the Katrina I remember seeing a video where some guy said that Chris bragged about shooting people but Chris never commented on that one either. One thing the guy telling that story said was that Chris was drunk when talking about it so who knows. Whether either incident happened doesn't matter to me.

So far no direct claims or evidence of that, everything is second hand.

Luttrell claimed Kyle told him the attempted robbery story and repeated it in "Service: A Navy SEAL at War", published in 2012.
Michael Mooney, a writer for D (for Dallas) Magazine did a profile article on Kyle, April 2013. He stated Kyle told him it was true. Mooney did some research, could not find any supporting evidence. Others have looked into since, same result. |

Chris was a hero regardless if he said those things, but I found that book to be a tough read. It wasn't written very well IMO. I especially skipped over the Taya parts of the book. |

So, was Luttrell bullshitting about the car jacking stories ?
It is an Internet toughguynavysealsniperrangerseal staple. |

Thankfully, as my ballot revealed, he is not a prospective NRA board member, no matter how much he wanted (to undermine the 2nd). http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2013/12/nra-board-candidate-brandon-webb-is.html http://www.thebangswitch.com/keep-brandon-webb-off-the-nra-board-of-directors/ |

Great. Now we have Chris Kyle truthers.
The guy told some bullshit war stories. Men have been telling bullshit war stories since they started going to war. Doesn't affect his heroism or stain his service to his country. |
