At the very least the writing is not hard and slow to get through, so it can't be a slog because of that. You have to just not want to read it. Compared to the majority of, say, the 40k library, battletech just falls way short. It has been a long time since I read a battle tech book so the ones I tried just sort of run together. I remember being so bored by the first book in the gray death series that I haven't returned to the (literary) battletech universe since. |

The first GDL book is the first book of the entire series and it's not bad, but it's not a standout, IMO, and if you're forming your opinion of the rest of the novels from that, you're making a mistake. GDL fans will bay at the moon for my blood for saying it, but the BT novels didn't hit their stride until warrior:en garde (yes, I've read all the novels that came before that book). I haven't read any of the 40k fiction, I don't care for that setting, and never have, so I can't really sink my teeth into how they compare. I can say for everyone in general: if you don't like descriptions of combat between tanks, airplanes (yes people, I know aerofighters fly in space), infantry, infantry in battle armor, space ships and giant armored piloted robots ... you aren't going to like the BT novels. |

But with the exception of gaunts ghosts most of the 40k i have read is shoot em up action adventure sci fi. With battletech/mechwarrior is a mix of hard sci fi, mil strategy, and some action adventure. With some exeptions. Not really comparable imo, but i could see why a 40k fan would get bored with battletech. And i have read the 1st grey death book and found it to be on the lower end of the battletech i have read. I think both universe's are great, but 40k is much more stable and linear as far as politics and the little changing state of the empire at constant war. Where battletech is a constantly changing geopolitical landscape with totally different players depending on where you are in the chronology. |

So, TEX of the black pants legion youtube channel, a gun guy of some kind or the other who makes awesome BT vids has been dumped on and bullied by people screaming at him on both sides of this mess with BLP. Dude sounds like a guy who just wants to have fun and make content surrounding what he likes and like an honest guy who's refused to be a sellout (  to you tex, because people strive to sellout now).Everyone who can and who genuinely likes tex, stop by his youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BlackPantsLegion/videos , his patreon , https://www.patreon.com/BPLTEX , and his twitter https://twitter.com/BPLTEX and show the man some respect.
