Quoted: It's an obvious answer to say the Gulf badged GT40...my favorite car to ever exist, but I got thinking what are some of other coolest cars & their famous paint schemes? I actually like the Gulf scheme on the Porsche 917 even better. https://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/gulf-porsche-917-peter-chilelli.jpg Also loved Smokey Yunick's "7/8" Chevelle from 1968 (Yeah, Reese Bobby's car was inspired by this). https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ab/2c/4c/ab2c4ccaa66df08866da160c3a102cbc.jpg What's your faves? View Quote Smokey's car was more a 15/16th Chevelle. All of his cars looked, and ran awesome. Probably my favorite was Fireball Roberts '62 Catalina though. Agreed on the Gulf livery, for all their cars. Drag racing I'm partial to this one, my dad's '69 Camaro... in 1969. But Raymond Beadle's Blue Max Mustang II made me tingly too. |

Quoted: OPNI. Gulf 917 is art. For those unaware, the 917 is smaller than the Porsche 914. Tiny car. Always thought they were bigger. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/29/7f/6e/297f6e3445d1202a73372912a7632e39.jpg View Quote Thank you for the comparison...crazy! and S M A L L !! |

I loved Mark Martins early Valvoline livery. I think we can all admit racing machines are awesome.

Yep... Attached File Quoted: That looks like ass. Big fat ugly pimply ass. It was the first real ground effects car. A snowmobile engine sucked the car down onto the track for better traction in corners. Release the fan throttle for higher speeds in straights. It was a revolutionary car that was quickly banned because of its advantage. Lots of great liveries already posted, but I've always liked the Panoz LMP1 Stars and Stripes livery Attached File The car was pretty cool also as it was an American based team (Panoz owned Road Atlanta) and was the only front engined car in the prototype class. They sounded good too... 1999 Panoz LMP1 Roadster-S Unfortunately, they quickly became uncompetitive when Audi stepped up their game in the prototype class. |

The drivers feet are forward of the front axel and probably don’t make for good crash protection. |

That sure explains the shot in the Steve McQueen movie Le Mans. During the race there's a shit of the 917 swinging out to pass and the drivers head just fills the windshield. Always thought it was the angle or distortion or something. His head just looks almost comically huge. |

View Quote damn that's funny. I loved living a 10 minute walk to the Indy 500 track. Dad owned a few businesses in Indy and always got me and my brother Gasoline Alley passes for qualification weekends. Loved walking the Alley ogling the cars. |
