I've always known Cuban sandwiches to be like the ones described here as Miami. That being said the Tampa version sounds delicious too

One of the best things I ever ate while living in Tampa. I love those suckers.
as a rule, the shittier the gas station the better the Cuban sammich. |

I love everything about them except the pickle. View Quote Look at this guy. I'd bet, if he could, he'd have each pickle seperated from the rest in the barrel, and fucking deported. NO PICKLE, NO PEACE! NO PICKLE NO PEEEACE ! |

The one I eat is pressed and crunchy.
“Like the Cuban sandwich, the medianoche is typically warmed in a press before eating.[1]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medianoche |

There was another little place that served a dish called "ropa vieja", which was shredded beef flank steak cooked in a wine & tomato sauce, served with white rice and black beans "christanos y moros", and a side order of platanos fritos. Damn! I'm ready to call the airlines and book a ticket to Miami. View Quote |

I've tried them throughout the US. The best I've had is from a little deli near me, in NH of all places. They smoke their own meat, of course.

Well of the 17 I sold, the customer reaction ranged:
The bread is perfect. An 8/10. Not a home run, but pretty damn close. Really good. Amazing. Too much mustard. Excellent, but could use a little more mustard. Should have a sauce, but really good. OMG I’ll be back for another. I devoured it. So amazing. Perfect. Too much meat. Hard to really get good feedback from people, but I’ll be doing it again. Over all, it’s super easy prep the bread and pork, but time consuming to put together for an order. Next time I’ll cook it the day before I serve it as it was definitely better today than yesterday. I’ll also slice it and hot hold the slices. |

Sliced Roasted pork (puerco asado) for the win.
Went to a Cuban restaurant in Tampa close to the airport, the Cuban Sandwich had shredded pork (barf) I felt like I was eating a Mexican carnitas sandwich. |

I have something better than a Cuban sandwich.
I have a Cuban sammich maker. She makes Cuban babies, too. |

Now I’m all hungry and no chance of getting a good Cuban sandwich. You are all mean, bad people.

Just had my first Cubano sandwich today.
It hit the spot with all the yellow mustard and dill pickle. |

I can't find a real one in Dallas. Any help? View Quote - Havana Cafe (Garland) - C Senor (Bishop Arts District) - The Latin Pig (Plano) - Caribbean Cafe (Carrollton) - Cuban Dulceria International Bakery (Carrollton) Cuban sandwich is on Cuban bread (close to a french bread) Media Noche is usually a soft potato or egg bread Both are grilled and pressed. Hope that helps. That salami/Italian version from Tampa is not a real Cuban Sandwich. |

Caribbean Grill in Arlington makes the best one in NoVA I've found.

Thanks. Of those, which was your favorite? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes C Senor is just an outside stand and you eat on a bench outside. At the mercy of the weather and limited seating, but their sandwich is good. So if you want a restaurant with other choices as well, Havana Cafe is the closest full restaurant to me. I often eat a kid's cuban (which is really a full-sized sandwich for $4) as an appetizer, and then order a meal. Caribbean Cafe probably has the best food, but the slowest service, and it's twice as far for me. LAST on the list would be the Cuban Dulceria, but they have pastelitos de carne (for like $3+/ea! - expensive) which no one else has. Their sandwich is my least favorite though IIRC they have awards for it on their walls. Quoted:
There were Cubans in Tampa before Miami was anything more than swamp and skeeters. Italians and Greeks settled in the area too. Sponge diving, cigar making, and phosphates were the focus of many business ventures. This started in the 1880s, and the Cubano was a product conceived to feed those factory workers. Around this same time, Miami wasn't much more than a military outpost involved with the Seminole Wars. The first major influx of Cubans into Miami was in the 1950s. That being said, the bread for the Cuban sandwich is Pan Cubano. In a pinch, you can use Pan Agua, but don't tell any Cubans you know if you wish to retain that friendship. :) |

Most Cubans in this country are very proud to be Americans. My own Cuban relatives fought the Cuban government on America's behalf. Kennedy screwed them over, but they blame Democrats for that to this day. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |
