Nonsense. Let them know the truth.

Skid Row is California with nearly 40-million people living this way.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego are the only major cities in America where there are such problems and that's because of the liberals.

Go downtown Baltimore, Atlanta, Memphis, Saint Louis, Gary, Houston, Portland, Seattle, Denver, or Birmingham and you'll see what a bigger city can look like when run well.

I have to agree. No such thing as a "well run" city. At least not a bigger city.
They are all shitholes

because in order for that to happen, policymakers would have to take a stand that would be seen as oppressive by progressive voters.

progressivism is based on giving candy to a baby, because progressives like it when the baby smiles at them.  they desperately need the baby to like them, so anytime the baby wants candy, it gets candy.  when the baby refuses to eat real food and insists on candy, progressives cave in and give it more candy, because anything else would be oppressive and the baby deserves candy.  so the baby learns that all it has to do is throw a tantrum, and it gets more candy

and when the candy-fed baby grows into a thoroughly undisciplined, morbidly obese sociopath with type 2 diabetes and a mouthful of rotten teeth, the progressive blames conservatives and gives even more candy.

The courts back the homeless. There are legal groups that defend their "right" to be homeless and sleep on the public streets.

Locally there's a "tribe" of them that rotate around the city going from shopping area to shopping area until they wear their welcome out and move on.

They don't panhandle the stores too hard but do shoplift very heavily stealing food, clothing, and other essentials. They dumpster dive some but for the most part they panhandle the freeway off-ramps and gather aluminum cans to recycle. They also steal things left out in the yards - string trimmers, leaf blowers, shovels ... anything they can get a few bucks from.

Currently they're gone from my local commercial area but they'll be back as sure as shit.

Two weeks ago I spent 4 days/nights in San Francisco- hotel in Marina district, days in Financial district. I rode my bicycle the first two days, bus the other days due to rain. I think I saw ~6 homeless guys begging, no trash piles, no tents, no needles & no shit piles. Buses were very clean.

Based on what you hear from media or forums I should have been gang raped by homeless, injected with heroin and rolled in shit/piss every day. In the Tenderloin that might have happened. But it’s not “all over SF”.

I actually enjoyed the 4 days although I realized how lousy of a (bicycle) climber I am.

These are children, husbands, brothers who their own families can't handle. Who can blame them at some level?

Alcohol gets lots of them as do the hard core illegal drugs. They live only to satisfy their addictions. They will lie, steal, and even kill to get their drug of choice. The crazy are those with mental illnesses that make them unsuitable for living at home. They're dangerous as they can run violent for no rational reason. Mix the two groups together and you've got people that are non-functional.

You're not a drug addict because you're lazy. You don't get four personality disorders or go bi-polar because you didn't work hard enough in school.

I don't know who is more delusional when it comes to these people.
The right who thinks they are just lazy people and/or down on their luck. "Get a job ya bum"

Or the left who thinks that pointing the money cannon at them (to the detriment of the taxpayer) or passing more laws legitimizing or allowing them will magically make them productive members of society.

They are broken, there was a time where they were sequestered away from society for their own safety as well as that of the public at large.
It is sad and unfortunate but that is the only real solution. Make mental asylums great again.

A couple of friends of mine bought several acres of rural property just off I-20 in Georgia sight unseen . For taxes owed .  Not near any metro areas.   When they finally went to examine they area they found about 75 to 100 " campers " on the property .   Seems that the crazy lady that had a house on the property had sought these people out and invited them to stay .   Photos of the camp look exactly like the ones from L.A. .

They refused to leave to property .  But they left when the roll offs arrived followed by the heavy equipment that scooped up the mess and carted the junk away .  And completely removed the house along with the electric and water supply.

When they finished the road was deeply trenched out to discourage any traffic .

So it's not just a urban problem.

Skid Row has been a slum since before WWII. It's where the vagrant drunks lived. They lived in the flop houses and drank in the dive bars or in the street.

In the 1960's, it became home to drug addicts as well.

San Francisco has their own version called the Tenderloin. It followed the same pattern of drunks in flop houses to drug addicts and mentally ill homeless. These people shit in the street because they can't even afford to live in the flop houses. And many of the old flop houses are gone -- developed into apartments and condos and lofts so the millennials with money can move in and brag to their friends how "edgy" it is to live there.

LOL at trying to compare RC to the homeless problem in California. We’re reeling from so much crime we don’t even have a police department. But if one of the many, many Land Rovers, BMW’s, Tesla’s, or Mercedes here gets stolen we call the Sheriff’s Dept.

High priced items like certain alcohol (i.e. $50 bottles of tequila) and baby formula are locked up at our Walmart, but that’s to thwart shoplifters, not some sort of rampant crime or homelessness problem. I’ve lived all over the US and that’s not uncommon.

I’m not a fan of CA and I’m not a native. I’ve only been here 5 years and we’re leaving at the end of the year (this place is killing me financially), but RC is without a doubt one of the safest places I’ve ever lived.

You know, I really don't care. In fact I'm glad that the human refuge is plaguing leftist cities. Anyplace worth living is controlled by politicians that are willing to roust-out the vagrants.

Most if not all states have some form of Vagrancy/Loitering Laws usually letting municipalities deal with vagrancy/loitering as they deem fit within the law. If they choose not to enforce them it's the citizenry's job to hold their supervisor's feet to the fire or live with it.
