I know reading is for fags and all, but this part stuck out...
"Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced in January that Texas would fund $23 million in grants to purchase new vests for approximately 450 law enforcement agencies around the state. " Do these vests really cost 50k+ each |

She and the commissioner's court are elected officials. Apparently these are the people that the citizens of Travis County want.

"The new open carry law makes our job more hard. For example, there might be scenarios in which law enforcement will not know who the “good guys” or “bad guys” are. There have been situations in which undercover law enforcement have been involved in altercations. These scenarios are real.
As Sheriff, I will advocate for responsible gun laws. As a law enforcement official I will follow the law, but I will continue to be a advocate for progressive Travis County values." Cunt |

In many states, the Governor can remove a sheriff even if the sheriff is elected.
Pressure is being put on the Florida Governor to remove the incompetent sheriff of Broward county. |

I live in Travis Country (and Austin). As bad as the county can be, Austin makes it look conservative (except for the glaring exception of the turd who holds the title of sheriff).
To give you an idea of the population of Travis County: US Senate . . . Republican votes for Ted Cruz in Travis County = 27,990 (71.7% of the Rep vote); Democrat votes for pretty-boy Beto O'Rourke = 97,746 (86.8% of Dem vote). In Travis County there are 736,112 registered voters (15.29% voted in Democrat primary and 5.3% voted in Republican primary). I can guarantee that the actual number of registered voters are more Democrat than these percentages show. Now, statewide, of the 15,249,541 registered voters, 1,543,674 (or 10.1%) voted for a US Senate Republican candidate. 1,037,799 (or 6.8%) of registered voters voted for a Dem candidate in the US Senate race. Contrary to the Travis Country turnout, I would bet the farm that the percentages statewide overly represent Dems because they were hyped up to vote. Many Repubs stayed home. As long as Republicans turn out to vote in November, there should be no surprises on the statewide races. |

And, by the way, my wife and I do our part to fight the libs in Austin. But, the reality is that as we approach retirement, we may be forced to leave the home we thought we would live in until we died. The city and county overreach on rules, taxes, fees, etc. is just too much for us. When we retire in a few years, our property tax bill will likely exceed $1500-$2000 per month. Even with our house paid off, this is tough to handle in retirement as our income drops to whatever SS and our retirement accounts can provide. Maybe I can be a greeter at Walmart to offset the costs

How about the Governor just modify the grant program so individual officers can apply instead of agencies? Or have the state buy and let the individual officers requisition from the State.

Well, the upside is that pistol round bulletproof vests are a bit lighter. You already are carrying a lot of weight in gear, gun, ammo and vest. Level iv vest would be more weight.
The downside is that she's not applying for the grant because of political reasons. Hopefully, that just frees up funds for a number of vests for other agencies who really want them but can't afford them. ICE should do a round up of illegal immigrants outide of the Travis County courthouse. And then, have the local news cover it after the fact. |
|
I disagree vehemently with that Sheriff; she is a left wing radical and is making her community less safe with her refusal to cooperate with ICE.
That said, the provision of the body armor by the state shouldn’t be tied to any conditions, especially something that would be politicized. Just give them the damned body armor and find another way to deal with that sorry excuse for a LEO and others like her. |
