Do you remember your father ever wearing a suit?
Photographs do not count. |
Yes, he's a Lutheran Pastor. Shirt and tie to work everyday, suit on Sunday and to special events. Secularly, he's worn suits to numerous weddings, funerals, nice restaurants, get togethers, etc.
ETA: What man doesn't? |
At my sister's wedding when he walked her down the aisle. I can't think of another time. Button-down and khakis is about as formal as he gets. He might have worn a tie at my wedding. Don't recall.

Well I'm fairly young by GD standards, but I own my law firm with my Father.
So he sees me and I see him in a suit typically Monday through Thursday. |
Almost every single day during 3 years of embassy duty. Besides that only on special occasions.
Tuesday thru Saturday to work in nyc and took the first train in till 1969 when he retired
of course Sunday for mass |
Only to funerals
He was active duty Air Force for 22 years. I remember him wearing his blues on occasion but never a business suit |
Probably but I only remember him wearing sport coats and dress pants
Funerals and weddings.
Suits get pretty messed up in a machine shop, even with an apron. |
The only time I ever saw him in a suit was at my brother's wedding.
I don't think dad had a tie.
He was as 'country' as they come, and I only remember him wearing flannels or t-shirts. |
Flight suit. Then the orange flight suit. Then suit when a stock broker. When he left that, just at funerals and weddings.
I do not remember him wearing a suit other than to some weddings and some funerals.
Every day of his working life after the USMC. He became a university VP, and it was the UOD. Finally transitioned to Brooks Brothers casual when he hard retired, which wasn't much of an improvement.
Nope.
I've never had a suit either. Closest thing we're my Class A's |
He wore a suit for 21 years working for the county .gov.
I think he had 6 of them, I remember he would come home on Thursday with 3 or 4 of them from the dry cleaner. They were semi-custom tailored from Sears. Every year he bought a new suit as a replacement. After he retired he gave them all away to the Salvation Army and never wore one again. |
He must have at some point. He went to law school before he washed out because he was seriously mentally ill.
But I can't recall ever seeing him in a suit the whole time I was alive. He certainly didn't own one. He took the whole 'hippie' thing more and more seriously as he got older. |

I'm pretty sure that my dad never owned one. He was a farmer, born in 1912. The one and only time I ever saw him in anything but overalls was when he he wore slacks to my wedding.
Yes. Dad was an undertaker of the old school. You really didn't want to call him a funeral director.
dad wore a suit to the office every day until they laid him off in 94.
Every Sunday to church now that he's older. Not so much when he was younger.

Sure.
GD is weird about suits and ties though, and someone will be along shortly to jerk themselves off about how no man in their family has ever worn one, because nice clothes turn you gay. |
Every Sunday, every wedding he went to, every formal occasion, every funeral he went to, including his.
He was a good man and great father. |
Pastor - 3 times a week minimum
Sunday AM / Sunday PM / Wednesday Prayer Meeting Bereavement & Marriage functions also |
He didn't wear actual suits terribly often, but he wore a sportcoat, dress slacks and tie to the office every day. The suits only came out for work for VIP visits, interviews, things like that.

wakeboarder thread.
I've only seen him in a suit once and it was a couple years ago at my sister's wedding. |
He’s a retired teacher/high school counselor and has been an elder at the congregation we attend for the last 25+ years.
I’ve seen him wear a suit to plenty of graduations, weddings, funerals and church services. He’s always been a stickler for appropriate dress for the occasion. I’ve seen him wear overalls a lot more though. |
I saw a dude in Walmart recently in a very cheap looking suit. It was weird to see and made me think about how common that used to be.
Bunny suit on weekdays. Gorilla suit on weekends and holidays.
M-F for his whole career. Also drove a dark colored American sedan to be able to drive execs around.
I never saw him in one. I never saw my grandfather (his father) in anything but overalls except at his funeral. I've told my wife if I'm in anything but comfortable jeans and shirt at my funeral I'll haunt her.
