There was a time back in the 50's and 60's where everyone wore a suit to church. Not only that but everyone wore a suit to fly on an airplane...

Clip on tie and short sleeve dress shirts but no suits.
He was a safety engineer / inspector. |
My dad didn’t wear suits often, but grandpa wore his suit to dinner nearly every day. No particular reason, he just dressed that way. Brown necktie and a matching vest, and both his wingtip shoes.
Still wears a suit every Sunday to church...
Yall still have self respect, too, right? |
He was a corporate lawyer. Suit and tie every day. Penny loafers were his casual shoes.
The apple fell far from the tree in the clothing aspect. |
No, I only remember him in a uniform. 50 some years later, I still miss him.
Dad was a CPD detective from the mid 80s thru the early 2000s. It was pat of the uniform almost as much as the bushy mustache, which he also wore....
Weddings and funerals. He was a blue collar guy. Welder for the old Euclid Road Machinery company in Cleveland that made huge trucks.
My father was a funeral director, associate pastor, and a salesman. He wore a suit most of his life.
My dad was a proession over a department, he never wore a suit to work and at the same company nobody does now either. 6 figure pay going back to the early 80's, office job the entire time, no suit. 81 now I guess he wore a sut or a rented tux at my sisters wedding 35+ years ago.
My father wore a suit and tie everyday to work long after it was necessary or expected.
When I was a teenager, I asked him about it once. His answer was "they pay me A LOT of money, I want them to think they are getting their money's worth". |
My grandfather wore a tie everyday he was cruising timber that he was buying. Not a suit, but he was born in 1895.
Nope. Denim shorts, VW/Baja racing shirts, mullet, and thick glasses.
The 90's were a different time. |
5 days a week not counting South Carolina seersucker suit weekends although I never saw those but I did see him wear the seersucker in Virginia and Delaware once.
Yes not all the time but whenever would would visit family or friends 50% of the time. Now I don’t see anyone in a suit unless it’s for a event.
He was the branch manager of a Smith-Barney brokerage house.
So yeah, 5 days a week, and whenever he went to the country club for dinner. |
I remember my Dad wearing his USMC suit a lot. I've seen pictures of him wearing a civilian suit now and then, but don't recall ever seeing him in a suit in person. Just an easygoing guy from Wisconsin.
I was very young, he did wear his dress uniform to his retirement.
During his las three years in the Navy, my father had to wear a suit every day. He hated it, but he was able to have a beard again.
When he was selling used cars he did. You have to look good to reel those suckers in.
Dad was a golf pro and always wore dope attire. Think Pink shirt with purple plaid pants.
Dude pulled more ass than a rock star. |
Not until after he left the USAF and started working as a civilian contractor
For a long time yes. Supervisor position. Later he wore dress pants and button up dress shirt.
Was the 1970s same position now a guy will wear dockers and T shirt. Times have changed. |
Dan Akroyd as Sgt. Joe Friday stole my dad's whole civilian schtick...except for the charm bracelet everything else suit, tie, shirt, shoes, trousers, and hat were his @ 1950ish...those two even looked quite a bit alike.
Other than that he was a CWO4 USN |
My Dad wore a suit to work every day until the day he stopped working.
I was the last guy wearing a suit at my company circa 2004. Now, I should really dress semi professionally. But, they say "dress for your next job".....so I dress like I'm retired. No one has said anything. lol |
