Sitting in a cherry commission meeting listening to a brine cherry marketing report. The brine cherry deal is dying and margins are super tight.
So does ARF like Maraschino cherries? |
1) Pour out juice
2) Fill with grain alcohol 3) Sit on shelf for a year or so. Then, yes. |
I like fresh cherries but I will eat a maraschino if it is on top of my ice cream or something but I will not go out of my way and buy them.
I bought a jar, dumped 2/3 of the syrup out and filled it back up with everclear. I call them cherry bombs.
If you like them buy more because the growers need them to sell.
Basically if McDonald's pulls the cherry from their sundae the Maraschino cherry market is sunk. |
I liked them so much as a kid I once received a jar in my stocking for Christmas. I ate them all and drank all the syrup.
They are not made with formaldehyde either.
They bleach the color out of a cherry, add syrup and color, walla, Maraschino. |
I only like the ones made by Luxardo.
The unnaturally bright red ones are nasty. |
I liked the way that my first wife could tie a knot in a cherry stem using only her tongue ! ! ! |
Cherry in Wisconsin style Brandy Old Fashioned is best cherry.

Yep. These are the REAL Maraschino cherries, but you'll pay dearly. Our local liquor store has them in 8-ounce jars for $26.00, which I won't pay. My BIL started making his own using Luxardo and gives me a jar at Christmas. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Only Luxardo from now on. Once you try them, you'll never go back.

Maybe if they changed back, people would buy them en masse. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

That's a misconception, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur is not used in the production of their cherries. In fact, the label clearly lists the ingredients as cherries, sugar, Marasca cherry juice, glucose, citric acid, natural color, and Maraschino flavour. Luxardo, dump the syrup and replace with cointreau. I use them in old fashions.

Gluten free magazine will no longer advertise for Maraschino cherries because they have too much sugar in them. Whole Foods told gluten free they would not have the magazine in the store unless they dropped Maraschinos, so they dropped them.
To eat, no. In things like my family's ambrosia, yes.
Best cherries I ever had were in Montana. We got there when the Flathead cherries were ready to be picked. Hubby and I sat and ate a bag of them, and had a pit spitting contest. Delicious fun |

Yes. I can eat a whole jar in a sitting.
Got hooked when I was a little kid. |
