I might be aging some of you but after buying my first CD player and my first CD it was quite incredible.
That CD was "Nothing like the sun" by Sting. What a masterpiece. Still have it in my collection. |
Not sure if it was my second or not but Robert Plant's "Now and Zen" was outstanding on CD. The clarity of "Ship of Fools" is
burned into my brain. We've come along way from vinyl. |
That's a hard one. I remember a lot of my early CD's but I don't remember the first one I bought. Probably some 90's pop crap.
I remember the first and second 8 track I bought.
Bachman Turner Overdrive and Climax Blues Band. |
The Crow
For 8th grade graduation, my parents bought me an AIWA stereo for getting straight A's the whole year. Played the CD on repeat more times than I can remember. |
Master of Puppets. But it had been out on tape already by the time I got a CD player.
Fear factory - soul of a new machine.
I didn't have a cd player either , but my buddy did and I recorded it to a cassette tape. |
First album I ever owned myself was the Urban Cowboy soundtrack on 8 track.
That either the first or second one I bought. |
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Bought it at Walmart of all places. |
Ummm, the first CD I had (given to me) was the soundtrack to young guns... I think the first I actually bought was C&C Music Factory ??
I did have a source for unlimited movie soundtracks for quite a while. |
Boyz 2 Men and Poison Flesh & Blood.
Strange combination, but that's what they were. Came in those big long boxes. |
I had so many cassettes that I refused to. Until Alice in Chains Dirt was released in 1992. I rushed out and bought it on CD.
First CD- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road- Elton John
First Album- Disraeli Gears- Cream 1st 45- Honky Tonk Woman- Stones Yeah, I'm old... |
Nevermind, Nirvana.
And the most amazingly fast CD player(single disc) for a decade. Instant tracking, just amazing. No remote:(. My brother gifted it to my parents a few years prior, when there were only a handful of CDs out for purchase. Took decades for CD players to be as responsive and quick. Of course, no error correction, caching, jitter correction, programability, repeat, or any basic digital function. But, put in a CD, shove the tray in(eject didn't trigger the drawer to close, yet) and hit play, less that .01 seconds until it was playing music. Next track, instant. Way faster than my records(vinyl for young people). |
Boston debut on CD. That was the 2nd vinyl album I bought in my life.
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms. Was the one to have to impress people with your CD player addition to the half dozen other components of your stereo system. Still got it, along with the stereo system minus the CD player.

First tape: motley crue shout at the devil
First cd: van halen OU812 |
Passion -- the Peter Gabriel soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ. I still have it.
First two albums (bought at the same time on 8-track) were Black Sabbath/Sabotage and Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin. |
10 CD’s from Columbia House for 1 penny FTW!!!!!
Can’t remember what I got though… |

Yup, Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits 1974-1978. I still remember the first in-dash CD player I bought, it was a Sony that I bought from Wal Mart for $300...in 1995.
Columbia house sub service. 7 for a penny or whatever
Roxette - joyride |
How do you guys remember this stuff? I remember my first concert (Three Dog Night), but I don't recall my first 45/album/8-track/cassette/CD.
