This one tends to have an effect on me every time I listen.
I was impressed as Hell the first time I heard it. Apparently he was pretty sick and powered through this live performance, that's why he's seated, which is very uncharacteristic.  Failed To Load Title There are literally dozens of "first reaction" vids with voice coaches discussing his performance. |

I was driving alone the other day and this song came on, and as I listened to the lyrics tears came to my eyes. The song is about the singer calling his mom from the road because he misses her and wants her to know he is okay. For some reason, those words made me think of my deceased mother who’s been gone for 12 years and I realize I’ll never be able to tell her I’m doing alright ever again. Especially tough because we weren’t on the best terms when she passed.

Caught me on a long 48 hour shift with a couple of dead kids at a time when I had been working so much that I hadn’t been doing much with my children. It hit me like a ton of bricks that I was going to find myself an old man like in the song. |
