Anyone who says anything other than Lonesome Dove is wrong, and should be ashamed of themselves.

As a non-boomer, I'm gonna say either Tombstone or Unforgiven.

As far as The Dukes movies go, I like it but Rio Bravo and McLintock were way better.

I'm lookin at a tin star with a drunk pinned on it.
I agree. excellent movie. |

monte walsh is the best "cowboy" movie period
I will add rio bravo is probably one of the most successful movie formulas used in story telling in all genres |

No, because it's a re-do of "Rio Bravo" which was a superior film and not just because of Angie Dickinson.
Attached File The Duke reportedly quipped to director Howard Hawks "do I get to play the drunk this time?" "El Dorado" is still enjoyable, but it's far from the best cowboy movie ever. |

Quoted: If you are going to post the best western film, and it stars John Wayne, it better be The Searchers Unforgiven is a pretty damned good, non John Wayne western. However, Once Upon A Time In The West is the best because it was written by three great filmmakers (Argento, Bertolucci and Leone) that inserted a ton of homages to the most noteworthy westerns in cinematic history. Not to mention Henry Fucking Fonda as one bad motherfucker. View Quote Dooood. All honorable mentions. But, if you're talking WESTERNS, it must feature The Dukester. As our fearless, beloved dear leader, Joe Biden says, "Full stop". |

All the films mentioned are good or great, westerns in general are the best genre of films.

What movie is this? My father wore me out on cowboys in the 50's and 60's so I do not watch many. Tombstone is my choice.
