Local felon on the run in my area. Sherriff has perimeters set up, and ghetto bird circling. Long creek nearby that's dry and lots of pasture, so it's easier for this guy to evade.
Pistol, rifle, or shotgun at the ready should the dumbass try to crash your property? |
|
Depends on a LOT of factors (physical layout, number and location of other family members/occupants, etc).
Stay safe. And remember: as always, superior tactics are to weapons as ten is to one. |

Fenced in area around the house.
Lights that illuminate the yard but also the area outside the fenc Big dog with strong protective instincts. Motion sensor operated lights Alarms on doors/windows supported by motion sensors inside Multiple fyre-arms and training. and sign that reads, "All trespassers will be sodomized." |

I'd just wear my carry gun and unlimber a 12 gauge with buck shot while I listen for the dog to possibly alert.

An SBR and I’ll likely be watching the security cameras instead of streaming a 50-75 year old horror movie that night.

Frags and a framing hammer. You don't want to give away your position.

Same thing I'd have ready any other night.
300 BLK SBR, suppressed, with 110 Black Tips ready and waiting, including one in the chamber. Which is exactly what I have now ten feet from me. |

I’d also be wearing nothing but my padded 2” belt, a full erection and maybe greased up with cherry balmz.

I would choose a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended.
Image the following scenario... Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" I yell as I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. I blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. I draw my pistol on the second man, but miss him entirely because it's smoothbore, and nail the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" I exclaim, as the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel setting off car alarms in a 5 block radius. I fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended. |

Going with something I know. Got a KSG the other day but not comfy with that manual of arms yet.

If we’re assuming he might be close to my property, it goes like this.
Put on steel plate vest 9mm on the hip. 300 BLK SBR Suppressed with TAP subsonics. SBR and pistol have lights, but have no intention of using them. Go to my hidden position, flip on the flood lights and wait for the best real action shoot ‘em up ever to begin. |

What city? HPD Fox is the only one fling in pattern at the moment
|
|
One person, no body armor, I want maximum lead downrange with each shot.
Benelli M4 with 00 buck |

That's pretty close. He may be looking for a place to break into, and if you are rural, that limits his possibilities, to possibly "just you." I would probably be doing one each long gun and sidearm, and have all family members/occupants briefed & ready with the plan of action. |

Near my house? Sig 229 on my hip and probably a Mossberg shotgun, both property of my employer. And my ass will be out there beating the bushes. Been there, done that.

Still better than living in a city, tho. |

View Quote The one thing the OP has still not told us is if there are other family members in the home. In that case, no, you don't be "out there" doing anything. You be hunkered down INSIDE, defending family. ETA: Okay, I see he just told us. |
