“The successor to the G36, the standard assault rifle of the Bundeswehr, is to be manufactured in Suhl, Thuringia, in the future. The MK556 from CG Haenel emerged as the winner from the evaluation of the offers submitted in the award procedure, the German news agency dpa reported. An official confirmation from the Federal Ministry of Defense, which Soldat & Technik submitted to the Defense Ministry last week, is still pending. The decision of the awarding authority is still subject to a possible complaint or judicial review proceedings before the awarding chamber. The two companies were only informed of the decision earlier this week.
The MK556 is a fully automatic machine with a caliber of 5.56 x 45 mm. The MK stands for "machine carabiner". The weapon was first presented by the manufacturer in 2017 and follows the AR15 architecture, works with a short-stroke gas piston system and has an adjustable gas tap. Barrels with 10.5 ?, 12.5 ?, 14.5 ? and 16 ? are available as standard.” https://soldat-und-technik.de/2020/09/bewaffnung/23623/system-sturmgewehr-bundeswehr-c-g-haenel-gewinnt-ausschreibung-um-die-g-36-nachfolge/ Blame Chrome for the auto-translate. Winning company is owned by Caracal, which offered what looks to be an updated Caracal 816, which is an updated Sig 516, that is in turn a derivative of the HK 416. |

They shouldn't even waste the money on buying new rifles. The ones they have will work just fine since they avoid engaging in active combat anyway. The German military has turned into a joke.
|
|
Maybe they should concentrate on other areas of their extremely lacking military

German G36 replaced by a Turkish rifle?
Fucking lol! The world truly has gone mad. |
|
But our military is buying their way overpriced crap. Perfect.

It's an AR15. What am I missing here? |

I really think HK is going to do what Sig did. Move more and more of their production to the US. A lot of the reasons we don't get guns like the G36, UMP, and so on is because of how restrictive the German govt is with German arms makers. HK wants to sell the US market PCC versions of the G36 and others but because those are made in German it is very hard to export them. HK has a factory in Columbus, GA. Hopefully they will expand and start making more stuff here.

Looks like CG Haenel is a zombie brand dead since the end of WWII, Caracal resurrected them in 2008, making shotguns and a bolt action hunting rifle: CG Haenel
That's fast work, zip to contract for the new service rifle in 12 years. That had to cost a shitload of money. |

I don't buy guns made by my enemies. I'd rather support my own countries businesses. HK is now made in USA depending upon what gun. So is Glock.

Rob Pincus used to pimp their stuff so...
I know he's a GD favorite. |

So Germany is buying rifles from the Middle East instead of HK and they have a tranny in charge of their military...
LOL. |

How embarrassing, for both HK and Germany!

View Quote They can't just move those guns to the US, IIRC German law won't even let them export the technical data package needed to make their own black rifles unless it is for military sales. Otherwise they must design the gun overseas. Pistols can go, but not the rifles. Kharn |

Other than the collection factor or the cool factor of a G36, who wants a weapon that is a third tier 5.56 rifle?
Especially at the price point? |
