Cousin had a couple for a little while. Build and parts car. The 2 eventually never made one car and he got tired of parts hunting to finish the build and sold them.

The S is pretty rare. I have a 924 in the garage. I've owned it since around '95.

I see one sometimes at our local C&C, there was even one like that for sale.
|

dang op...that's rare
Uncle had a 924 in highschool Someone locally has a 944 and another one has a 928...so I see them from time to time. But no 924s around here. |

924’s sucked. As a Porsche fanboy of the 80’s and 90’s, they suiuuuuuuuuuuucked!
|

My nephew bought one. Not particularly fast. Throw money at for expensive repairs. A big mistake. For the buyer and the maker. What a pig.

Definitely an '80s car. I can't recall the last time I saw one, especially an S; I did see a clean 928 the other day, another car you don't see very often anymore.

|
EA 425 - it's mostly VW so lots of cheap solutions. The S got suspension and actual Porsche lump cos VW stiffed them.
For what they were and intended, pretty hot little ride |

If you're in Pensacola, I saw it too. Pointed it out to the wifey.

I can appreciate a solid 944. Same for a 968 which teally is rare. 928s were nice as well.
But a 924? No care. If I were not in Ca a 944 with an LS swap would be a fun track car. |

Used to be called the poormans Porsche when I was a teen.
There were tons of them in the autotrader mags for 2k ish. |

ITT we learn about 944 development.
All 924'S aren't created equally |

What turns you off? 914s bottom of my list - but only in America Two things mostly. 1) I never liked the styling/shape of it. Which I admit is a little odd, because I absolutely love the 928 - but somehow the 924 just lacked the curves/hips that make Porsches sexy to me. The 944 has some of that, and looks good - but the 924 just never did it for me. 2) The entry-level 914 (before the 924) seemed fun and cool, like a go-kart, whereas the 924 seemed more like a boring econobox. Sure the styling was new and different, but as a sports car it just seemed bland and unexciting. So my dislike for it is not even the "OMG it's front-engined" or "boo hoo, the performance sucked" sentiments - it's more just the aesthetic and feel of it. |

944 was better in every way... haven't seen one of those in a while either and the last one was being driven by a hilljack and not in nice condition either.

Fair - the 944 (wide body 924S) is still one of the most novel pleasing exteriors. Do you like 968 styling? 924 rode like absolute dog shit on super slab (worse than a Z4M), which I thought might be the issue. It's off putting Many deride it, but on track or wringing it out, for the time it sure as shit was remarkable, and not nearly as concerning at limits as most previous Porsche. It could run. The 1.7 914 was a different animal than the 2.0 - but I'm not a fan of either. BoneB1B I agree - why I limited my comments to the US - wasn't a Porsche issue in Europe. |

There was a fair amount of development throughout the 924s's life from basically a VW to Turbo to the S which was entirely a 944. Which is why I find it funny peeps talk up the 944 but disparage 924 S - like the one OP photographed. I wonder how many have spent time - and if they've conflated it with the early 924. But yea the 944 was abundantly improved over the 924 - 6 years does that. There's a 86 Guards Red Turbo in my parking lot couple times a week weather permitting. |

My Dad had a 924 Turbo in Bruno's Racing livery in the '80s. I recall taking that car through Snellville GA at an extremely high rate of speed one Sunday morning while the parents were out of town. Shades of Weird Science.
It was glorious! |

I saw a mint AMC Gremlin driving around last week, on my way to the grocery store. I did a double take.
I'm 43, and even as a kid in the 80s, there weren't that many still running around. And they damn sure weren't as nice as this one was. |

That time frame of american crash bumper bullshit really fucked up the look a bit. 1993 968 Club Sport and the 968 GT2 are where I would try to be with a track prepped Porsche from that family. Cannot find one, turning a nothing special 944 into one would not bother me much. |

Would've been a nice update with some upsides. The few PreProds that weren't tested out were sold - I'm not sure any were kept for the Factory Collection. I've never seen one change hands tho. Taj's GTS went back in '19 - prolly a deal at the $350k it went for. Sad seeing Dixon's stuff gone. |

Quoted: True. The 914 was a hoot to drive. A friend worked at a Porsche shop that the boss put a 6 cylinder 911 engine in a 914! I got to take a ride in it. It was fast and handled pretty good. The 924 always reminded me of a Volkswagen Scirocco. Sciroccos were pretty peppy in their own right.
