Quoted: My Mrs. got tired of me piling rifles all up around the night stand. Got me a pretty sweet rack for the wall for Christmas. It's designed for 6, but the mounting arms hold a SP5K across top, and a .300 pistol across the bottom pair. So 8. Need a bigger nightstand tho, only 3 pistols really fit comfortably. If I go on vacation, the ones that don't come with me go somewhere stout. Otherwise, I like looking at em, and having them handy. To the point about keeping things secure for burglaries that happen when you're just out of the house for a few hours, I think those points are valid.
There are plenty of quick-access gun safes designed to only fit a single rifle that could probably fit inside that space you made, OP. |

Uncanny timing. I was JUST looking at the huge mirror (also from hobby lobby) leaning against the wall in the master this morning... This is happening.

I like the IC13 Mount Up for a decent security option. If I'm gone for more than a few days, I put the rifle in my larger safe.

I would get rid of the slide and just bolt the mirror securely to the wall.
It would be much cooler to smash the mirror to grab weapons! "In case of emergency, break glass" |

Quoted: I want to know why the outlet is centered between the studs. Also, what did you use for the box you recessed in the wall? View Quote I cut the stud out with an oscillating tool. The wall isn't load bearing so it's fine. It would have been easier to go between studs but I wanted it centered on the wall and this was the only way. I used 1x4 (3/4x3.5 actual) charcoal-finished "accent trim" or whatever Lowe's calls them for the frame with 1/2" plywood for the back. Covered the plywood with the green faux leather. The trim was just whatever tickled my pickle and was thin enough to not interfere with the mirror sliding. The frame of the box protruded 1/16" from the wall so I used my router and took some off the back of the trim to fit flush. |
