We’re planning an August wedding and want to keep total expenses under $10,000 for about 150 people. Any tips on how to get the most bang for the buck? We’re not looking for an extravagant reception but want to have a nice one.

Nothing. Went to the courthouse. Subconsciously knew she was worthless.
Badum tssssss |

Spend a couple grand eloping to Vegas and put the other 8k on black.

$200
My bride and her sisters made sandwiches the night before and the dress costs about $80. The rest was for the photos. We've been married for 42 years now. |
Around 25k
We wanted a small destination wedding but her parents and my parents wanted to invite a ton of people. Told them if they want a big party they would have to pay for most of it. They did. We had 300+ people at our wedding. We only paid 7k out of our pocket. |

About $1000. Keg of beer from Dogfish in Milton DE, a few cases of wine from Trader Joes, a cake, and a donation to the pastor's church.
ETA: still married after 17 years. |
Wife and I spent about $12k back in 2012. If you ask any of the attendees, our wedding was really awesome. Seriously one of the best times I've ever had and honestly I've never been to another wedding that held a candle to ours. Most of the money was spent on the reception hall/dinner and photographer.
DON'T SKIMP ON THE PHOTOGRAPHER! My wife's friend recently hired a friend "who is going to school for photography" and their wedding pictures are terrible. We had ~100 guests. ETA: Her parents paid for most of it, because she is an only child and they wanted to make sure it was a day to remember. I think we put in about $3k and my dad put in $2k. |
$15k
It helped that we got married during a recession, and we were willing to do this on a 6 month timetable (most couples do 12+ months) Most vendors were hurting, and they had all written off unbooked dates for the year. They were willing to deal. |
Zero.
Went from meet to married in 8 months and ended up basically eloping. 20 years in Sept. and 7 kids. |

Airfare to Telluride, lift tickets, ski rental and $200 for a preacher to marry us on the top of a mountain. It was just the wife and I.

$30
Wife’s sister paid. 30th anniversary was in August. Wife bought her own ring too. |

Just celebrated our 30 year anniversary. We got the license, gave the preacher a gratuity and that was that. He did take one photo for us.

$1200.
Flew into vegas for a week and got married by elvis. Free webcam viewing for friends that wanted to watch, and I didn't have to pay for the moochers to eat and drink. |

About $500. The biggest individual line item was a minister willing to walk down a cliff to the beach. After that it was beer.

Wedding, reception, her dress, limos and all the bullshit that went along with it cost $8,000 in 2011
Honeymoon to Australia cost $12,000 |
About $400 for clothes, travel, flowers and venue (Minister included). Her dad got the reception dinner and paid lodging for all of the guests, my sisters got the cake and photographer, we spent American Express points for the honeymoon.
We've been together for nearly 20 years, now. |

Around $10k in '94. Most of that was for the country club reception for about 150 people. Wife made her dress. Wedding cake was by a lady with a good reputation that worked out of her house. I did go for pro photo's but selected the lower end package. Videos were by two different family members. Church wedding at my childhood church cost minimal $ for preist and organist.

$20k. We paid for it over the course of 2 years. Received half back from gifts at the reception.

Funny you say that because I'm actually not very social. We both have big families and the parents wanted to include as many people as possible. Not my idea but they wanted it and paid for it. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

$750 after the courthouse and restaurant "reception" with immediate family and one friend each. 17 years married, but not sure for how much longer. She's getting tired of living with an asshole.
20-30K as best I can tell.
The MIL took care of it, then we took the company charge card on vacation. I really married up. |
$300 for the wedding chapel and food for the reception at my folks house. So around $7.15 a year for the 42 years it has lasted.
I think ours was $20-25K for 150-200 people. I really didn't plan much. The main insistence from her parents was an open bar as anything else is tacky. I think that's where the bulk of the cost came from.
did ours for 10K about a decade ago.
Married in the church, ( hers) I think the priest/church got a $500 donation) flowers and the such just shopped smartly, local small florist. Dresses and Tuxs. I used men's wharehouse so it was easy for groomsmen, she went to and oldtime polish dresshop on chicago's south side. I forget where she went for bridesmades we kept it simple. we had the reception at an Italian ( mighta been polish) hall, catered from the same place had an open bar for a bit . Music was a local DJ guy who was recommended from her mom's friend from bingo. Again, all local, salt of the earth Chicago south side people. not the urban youtes you read about just old time polish and italians from the area. The guest list was smallish, maybe 125 people mostly her family. I had maybe 15 people, grandmas. siblings parents one uncle his wife and 3 old friends. Who really wants to go to a wedding anyway? I didn't invite the coworkers, or embarrassment friends that come and go in life, just 3 old ones. Keep it simple. plan local. don't throw a "party" per-se your guest will appreciate it if they were like ours. good central location, clothing and needs ect were taken into account. We did NOT do bachelor/bacherllotette bullshit. common, you are getting married, do you really want some skanks ass in your face the night before? What we DID do was go to a bigger entertainment bar with our bridal/groomsmen groups and a few family members the night before. together. |

About $200 all in for her dress, two bands, a marriage license and the justice of the peace at the courthouse.
$75. Got married by my sweetie's niece (She sent away to get ordained). My first wedding and her 3rd.
8yrs later it still seems to be working. |
Maybe $250 total. We got married on very short (3 days) notice in my folks' back yard. I bought a new tie, my wife bought a new skirt, my dad rented some tables... that was it aside from the ring. I'm sure 1/2 the people who came figured my wife was pregnant already (she wasn't) and half were sure we'd be divorced within a few years (19 1/2 years and still together).
$150-$200. A few flowers and a modest cake. We have been married 28 years, best investment I ever made.
About fifteen thousand. We had 200 people.
We’ve been happily married for almost two months now |
$5k, no booze, 60 people.
More than it should have for no more people than it was but whatever. |
6k including rings dress catering photographer, everything I got costco cakes . yup and it was great! we paid for everything
