I built a coffee table with a little cool factor built in. I've been getting into a little wood working the past few months, and decided to build a coffee table with a hidden compartment.
This is made with 2x4s 2x6s and 1x6s. I ripped the 2x4s down to 3 inches and 2x6s down to 5 on my table saw to square them up. I used pocket holes and screws to join everything. Frame Attached File I made the top out of the 2x6s with breadboard ends. Attached File Frame painted with 3 coats of Shoji White Sherwin-Wlliams paint Attached File My helper Attached File Mounted a ripped down 2x4 1/2 inch from the top and mounted 22 inch drawer slides Attached File More to come |

Very cool. There is something to be said about furniture that you build yourself.

Attached File 1x6s mounted for bottom shelf and stained dark walnut Attached File Attached File Fingerprint scanner lock and motion activated LEDs inside that come on when you open it. Attached File Attached File I still need to make the X side pieces and poly the stained wood. I'm happy with the results! Hope y'all enjoy. |

And I was in my shop and the only AR I had had a light on the side and wouldn't fit right. I will keep a plain AR pistol and a handgun in it but couldn't take a pic of that last night. It is a great way to have a firearm at the ready that my kids aren't going to readily grab.
Just had to post that before the inevitable GD pointing it out |

One problem with an automatic light is if you were trying to stay hidden while someone might be looking for you then you'd be illuminated.
If for man cave extra storage than super cool. |

Looks great. What the power situation for the light and finger print scanner? Batteries or power from an outlet

Nice job. I've been thinking about building something similar.

Plus I can remove the pocket screws from the bottom if I get locked out. It gives blink warnings when battery low, amd indont forsee opening it often. |

That’s pretty cool op.
Seems like we missed a few of the steps regarding the fingerprint lock, latch, etc.. |
|
Nice. Good to hear about the lock after seeing your little helper.

Quoted: Really just for immediate grab if in the den. Like if I didn't have a 2&4 year old, it would just be in the corner, in a drawer etc. Now i dont have to run back to where secured firearms are in the back of the house. I wouldn't be in there with no light or TV anyway. This is not for midnight I'm asleep type thing. Just a more secure place so my kids don't happen upon it unsecured View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: One problem with an automatic light is if you were trying to stay hidden while someone might be looking for you then you'd be illuminated. Went over to close friends house. His gun safe was a hollowed out Pepsi machine with the light on.

My wife used to get pissed if there was a magazine out. Now I have guns in a bunch of places. She doesn’t exactly love it but she tolerates it. I miss them being little but this is nice too. @OP, that coffee table is awesome. |

When I first started scrolling and saw that first pic that was obviously a bunch of 2x4's I figured this would be some total hackjob like I would make
But that actually turned out really nice. Quite a surprise from my initial reaction haha catreadingnewspaperishouldgetatablesaw.jpg |
