Sounds like your tv watching has gotten out of hand, and you'll be lucky to live through another viewing.

'Tis a good film. Our English teacher in high school assigned Clancy books for summer reading assignments, so they hold a special place in my heart.

"Be careful Ryan, most things in here dont react well to bullets" !!!

Great movie. I was just talking about it with a coworker the other day. Red Storm Rising was brought up too. Definitely need to watch and/or read those again.
ETA- And Team Yankee. Fuck I need to stop watching Jordan Peterson and get on the nostalgia boat. |

I watched for the 2nd time in the National Air & Space Museum on the Mall in DC. On their giant screen. The movie opens w/ Sean Connery's nose. The entire theater let out a gasp when a 15 foot tall schnoz appeared on the screen.

"You heard that torpedo hit the hull and I.........was never here"
And of course "I would have liked to have seen Montana" |

My wife yelled at me for running it in the background while I cleaned some guns last night....(I own it).

Guy I used to work with claimed he was the one that crashed on the Carrier, In an F14...that wasn't an F14 that crashed. At the same time he also said that when he was in the hospital because of said crash, his commanding officer came in and showed him a letter to report to the Blue Angels.
Love the movie though! |

THFRO and Shawshank Redemption are two movies that no matter what is happening, the channel isn't changing until it's done.

You guys thought the movie was good, you should read the book. The book is 87 times better than the movie.
Hell all the Clancy books are better than their movies by a long ways. The worst part is that the movies butcher the books badly. I'm on executive orders right now. All that said, The Hunt for Red October is probably still one of my favorite movies, even though Alec Baldwin's a big fucking piece of shit. One of my greatest wishes is that Netflix or Amazon decides to pick up the Jack Ryan series, and be true to the books. Oh shit that would be an amazing day. |

Sigh, got hooked on the restored version of Lawrence of Arabia last evening.....The next thing I knew it was midnight.
NO PRISONERS ! |

View Quote To be true to the books, they'd have to be a season long series. I think the most of the movies were good considering the changes to the stories. Did you know about Amazon's upcoming Jack Ryan series? Doesn't seem to based on the books. Recent thread about it. |

RIP Fred Thompson. One of the best Cold War movies ever made.

This is the part where I'm supposed to say it's a shit movie because it's not technically accurate. But I won't because it's not a documentary and I enjoy it.

Could someone please re-edit the movie to cut out all the Alec Baldwin scenes out of it? Could those scenes be re-shot with a different actor. AW is a douche.

Great movie, except for the BS of submarines maneuvering like fighter jets. Actually it was worse than that, it was submarines maneuvering the way that Hollywood douchbags imagine fighter jets can maneuver.
It was made before Alec Baldwin went total douchbag, or at least he was not yet in full bloom |
|
1. The scenes showing the periscope sending Morse code? That was my boat. I was still in Power School when the movie came out though.
2. If you guys knew what sonar really sounded like you'd be disappointed. |
