President Trump is as well.
I just saw two commie liberals lambast Trump for saying he is a nationalist. Of course they lie and try to associate nationalist with racist, Hitler and puppy killers. My country (USA) is not the oldest on Earth but we are the best. I want Germany to be Germany...not a country over run by muslim invaders. The same goes for other European countries. They have their culture, language, etc that needs to remain uniquely their own. There are many cesspool third world countries. Their citizens need to man up and fix their problems and try to achieve a modicum of MAGA equivalency. Stop invading other countries to ruin them. |

Nationalism and patriotism often overlap, but aren't quite the same idea.
But nationalism used to be common in the world, and especially in America. Americans leaders used to put American interest above anything else, and we were a better country for it. |

View Quote Until some here stop playing Humpty Dumpty games with words, it’s really pretty hard to discuss anything. The term “Americanism” was coined some ways back to celebrate the unique nature of the citizen body of the United States, as one rooted in ideology and not blood. Maybe stick with that. Or, continue to advance one of many ever-popular victim narratives based in Humpty Dumpty word use. Your choice. |

Quoted: No it doesn't. Words have meanings. View Quote nationalism /naSH()nlizm/ noun identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. |

Quoted: The idea that “nation” is synonymous with “political state” and not “ethnic group,” is almost insanely unique to pop culture of the United States and a general confusion over the history of the word. View Quote noun identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. nation noun noun: nation; plural noun: nations a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory. If you want to just focus on one part of nation that is fine for you, but is not what the word means. Americans, their unique culture, and their shared history as a country makes us a nation. Nationalism as an american can for some be based on ethnicity, and for others on that shared history, culture, and location. Just because you interpret it one way, doesn't make it fact. |

Quoted: And we should care because? What's your opinion on people of Hispanic heritage such as I? Just wondering. Nationalism as a concept puts ones ethno-linguistic group above current citizenship. The history of nationalism is a history of people sharing the same concept of an ethnic heritage seeking to break away from a political state which was not led by that same group and/or to unify separate political states which the nationalists believed were rightly part of their same group - thus the modern concept of a “nation-state.” As such, nationalism has always been about race/ethnicity/etc. |
|
There are 3 basic types on nationalism: Civic, ethnic, and cultural.
I believe in America first, and I believe in the historical culture which has made this nation great. Call me what you will...but civic nationalism is indeed patriotism. |
|
For those following along at home.
Kurdish nationalists dislike their “nation” being split across arbitrary lines, and would like to separate from the political states of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, and so on and unify under a Kurdish nation state. Arab nationalists dislike what they see as infighting among the same “nation” of people and would like Arabs to work as one and possibly even unify under a Arab nation state. Most hate Israel with a passion, as they view it as a Jewish/Hebrew nation state on “their” land. Turkish nationalists have no love for Kurds, and don’t really recognize them as part of the Turkish people. These are males reflect patently obvious, common use of the term. Stop fooling yourselves with this Orwellian re-invention of English. The “United Nations” really isn’t aptly named. But, the “United States” was already taken. Nationalism in the Asian and European sense has never really worked as a “thing” in the Americas, except maybe among certain indigenous groups, and only then usually as movements against the ruling state. The American Indian Movement was a weird attempt to create a native “nationalism” but, as usual white liberals bought into the idea way more than any butt the usual Lefty native crowd. The term “nation” is still used almost interchangeably in referring to certain recognized native tribal groups. The idea that there is a unique ethnic character of “real America,” and that this ethnic character is defined by northern European heritage, English language upbringing, etc. has also ebbed and flowed through history, and you can’t run around denying this history as you spout off about “nationalism.” |

It seems limited to the US though, nobody in Latin America, let alone Mexico, really seems to give a shit about them. The more radical nationalist movements in Latin America reject Spanish as a European imperialist legacy but can’t really seem to find a unifying alternative (in part because no real historical basis exists). |

I've never understood the idea of being proud for your country and/or putting your country first makes you a bad person.
Yes I understand I'm lucky to be born here and that some people are born into shitholes but why turn this country into a shithole because of that? I'm sure this land east to west was a shithole at some point. Good people's stayed and made it what it is today. And if that makes me an asshole for thinking/saying this well I guess I'm just an asshole and go fuck yourself. |

View Quote The historical concept of nationalism dates back to an era of empires, when national identity was an identity separate from that if the empire under which you fell. The whole idea of a political sovereign state named after and constituting and representing the whole of a given ethnic nation is at the heart of what “nationalism” has always meant, long before such things existed, save for maybe a few random isolated exceptions (but even those often weren’t necessarily sovereign). |

Being a nationalist means putting your national identity above all sub-divisions(race, ethnicity, socio-economic, etc.) within your country. These subdivisions are currently being used by the democrats for the purpose of tearing the country apart. They call it identity politics and it sows deeply rooted division. Nationalists have existed here in the U.S. for most of our country's history. It wasn't until relatively recently that it had fallen out of favor. Just my $0.02.
