Quoted: BIL bought horses at a slaughter auction for 800 bucks. Thinks he can flip it and get 8,000 because another horse is going for that price somewhere online View Quote Maybe he can. After significant feed bills, vet bills, and a lot of training. There’s a reason those horses made it to the slaughter auction. It isn’t because they are picture perfect ladies’ saddle horses. |

Quoted: Quoted: There’s a reason those horses made it to the slaughter auction. That's what I keep telling him Sometimes it’s behavior related, but a lot of times the previous owners just couldn’t keep up with the expenses and let things get bad enough that the horses have significant health issues, are very underweight, and haven’t been ridden in a blue moon (if they’re even rideable). Or else they suffered a significant health problem or injury that made them nothing more than pasture pets for people uninterested in keeping a horse that can’t work. The impette’s trainer’s daughter got a thoroughbred through that pipeline. Had a massive abscess on his face and was severely malnourished and scared of everything. It took her about 2.5 years worth of investment in food, medical bills, and training, but she did sell him for about $8k as a children’s hunter/jumper show horse. His new girl has won several shows off him now and he’s sweet and gentle and loving as can be. But it took a huge investment that Taylor absolutely didn’t make up in his sale price. But that’s not why she bought him to begin with. |
