I often liked his posts.  Well-written and he was very knowledgeable, especially in certain areas, and sometimes was even insightful.

His problem, IMO, is his temper. Took very little to set him off, and it's what got him banned/suspended more than once.  Heck, he put me on ignore for a few months because I disagreed with him on some sort of political topic.  But his posts remained very informative.

Yeah, well he spent a couple pages and a few IMs one time arguing with me about a classified program which was my daily job for 3 years, and of which he clearly had no clue.

It’s impossible to prove him wrong without violating your NDA.
Not saying the guy was always right, just that he brought something to the table and was generally articulate in doing so.

He knew a shit ton about military history and the whole "he just quoted Wikipedia" and "posted wall of text" is just laziness for those who didn't want more than a bumper sticker to validate their talking points
Getting your point across with brevity is a skill lost on many, to include Steinab.

None of us are perfect, and we all have flaws.  I've been on the receiving end of his wrath, but I agreed with him more than I didn't (his ignorant opinions of the USMC not withstanding).

Sometimes you just have to have a thick skin, laugh at some the nonsense that goes on around here and learn what you can from those that are worth listening to.  Sylvan is one of those guys worth reading.

I would say I miss paris-dakar most of all.  Great poster.  Not sure why he stopped coming around.  I seriously doubt that he was banned.

Fatbert was decent, too.  Not sure if he was banned or stopped posting.

Yes, he was.

Not sure what happened to him.  Posts rate reduced to a trickle and then he just stopped posting.

I think the quality of his posts on politics dropped shortly after Trump entered the primaries.

Regarding the voting thing, I recall him saying he didn't really care about State and local politics and therefore didn't bother to vote in them; he only cared about politics at the Federal level.

I try not to get attached to things anymore.

If people have a meltdown and nuke themselves, well, what can you do?

I wish the obvious trolls were moderated a little more firmly but whatever.

It doesn’t matter. Someday, the Left will get their AR-15 ban. Then this site will be the home of the formerly legal to own black rifle and the membership can talk about what they liked most about the AR-15s they used to own, but posting pictures will get a thread locked and the poster banned. Posting you still own one will result in a ban. Advocating they be used for the 2nd’s intended purpose will catch you a ban.

...but you can bet there will be a batch of gleeful little gremlin Lefties trolling GD and rubbing it in everyone’s face and they’ll probably be allowed to do that, but the member who stands up and says “you all destroyed this country and as enemies of liberty your rightful place is in the cold earth fading into the margins of history as fast as the worms can eat you,” that poster would get a warning and maybe a lock or ban depending on how many times he/she have squeaked.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m just feeling tired tonight. Arf is great. I came for the guns and stayed for the crazy. Going to sleep now.

Liberty vs Sylvan isn’t even debatable. That is like comparing a 4 year old vs a grown successful man. The 4 year old will put up every argument they know, but it doesn’t have much merit and often times quite frankly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

He also helped a lot of members out in person here tho, to include probably saving wessono's life. He's just really bad at internetting with others

So one has to vote in local elections to offer accurate political commentary at the state or national level?

Who knew?

I miss the posters that actually contributed something positive to a topic. I always enjoyed picking the brains of Sylvan and Steinhab when a military topic came up.

That door swings both ways.

BTW, you're problem with Steinab was that his ego is as big as yours;  there wasn't enough room in GD for that much ignorance and faux "expertise".

Why? Steinhab was full of hot air. He talked out of his ass way too much to be taken seriously.

He won arguments by being so long winded that no one wanted to bother reading his shitty posts to refute them.
Ironically, you're both clueless.
Coming from you, I'll wear that as a badge of honor, considering your posts.

The difference is, I may be egotistical, but I'm not wrong. Usually.

His problem is that he parrots the Russian narrative unabashedly, and Steinhab was notoriously anti-Russian. . . To the point that they were both wrong on occasion due to having to adhere to such staunch ideological constraints

I'm guessing no one has spilled the beans on the reason for his ban yet?

I know Maynard got pissed and posted pics of aimless and that was why he got banned.

Mod bans are the rarest of bans.

Didn't he get banned for lying about his groups in an MOA thread or something? Got called out and didn't show up to the shoot IIRC. Something like that

Yeah, well, I guess a chemist could only really be familiar with one portion of the periodic table and be a chemist. But only an idiot would call that person an expert on chemistry.
