I have considered selling my ‘95. My wife keeps talking me out of it. I am not sure what that says about me and our relationship.

One time I was talking to a Corvette GUY. We are talking all kinds of builds - rebuilds, resto-mods, putting old school bodies on new school cars - he did some awesome stuff. Before I realized that he made his living selling them I said, "With that much work in it I can't imagine you sell these?" and he said, "Everything is for sale, because if I don't sell it I can't build the next one."

I have known more than a few die-hard car guys who live for buying right so they can wrench on it, sell it, pocket bucks, and then start again. Some of them have a modern car as their daily, some don't!

Yup. I suspect many of the "You shouldn't have done that" responses have not experienced the joys of driving old ass cars that do everything terrible compared to the cheapest modern shitbox. There comes a point where you just want to turn the key and use the vehicle without having to worry about what is going to go tits up next.

IMO cool old cars are like boats and machineguns. You want friends that have them.

You would be wrong. I am old and grew up on old cars. I own a few still.

Sold my '77 18 years go.  That was the worst mistake I ever made.

What you did was equally as bad.  You will miss it like not other mistake you ever made before.

If I miss it as much as you say, I’ll build another one.

Actually, that’s what I’m going through now. I’m not going to do any more major restorations after I finish the ‘31 Vicky and this ‘57 pickup.

I’m bailing out of my ‘48 Lincoln. I stopped counting at $50k spent on it. If anyone has the skillset to finish it, let me know. I’ll take $35k for it.

Man, that is just like buy high sell low...You dun broke...

@CountyWorker

I think you messed up...there is nothing like the early Bronco.  I have been offered a lot of money for my frame off restored 1977.  Almost enough to buy two new Broncos.  The ONLY Bronco I would sell mine for is if I could get an equal quality 1978 or 1979.

Awesome. Love me some old broncos.  My son wants one so bad, takes after his old man.

Should have never sold my 90 on 35’s years back. One of the cleanest broncos in the north east.  My friends father tied to talk me out of selling it but young me was dumb.

I can understand the OP.  My affliction is rusty old Italian cars you can't buy parts for.  Thankfully nobody cares if a Lancia Scorpion is correct, so it is effectively a blank canvas I can do whatever I want with.

Once a project is complete, so is my interest in it.  My wife claims I try to make my projects neverending.  Maybe she's right.

It costs a ton of money to build cars to even a nice driver standard these days and all the small parts that you get no return on chew up any big profits. I didn’t lose money on the Bronco, but I didn’t make much. I’m not into cars to make money, I’ve been building cars since I was a teenager and if you look behind the GT40 you’ll see a ‘47 Willys Wagon restomod that I started building when I was still in high school.

Yeah I’ll be that guy. New vehicles are better in almost every single way besides ease of maintenance and cost. Even cost is somewhat debatable if there are major break downs.

Way safer too.

You traded for a much safer modern suspension and power train, that is superior and more capable in every way.

The only ones that don't like it are the V8 death box loving boomers that will be dead within 10 years of lung cancer or COPD.

All these new fucking cars are glorified SUV's with some 30yo or 40yo designer's "take" on the classics. The slightest appearance to the original cars and people are gobbling them up "zomg they are releasing the new bronco!!!".
