When we moved here, we couldn't find anything to rent that wasn't: A) a shitty, small apartment or B) in the hood, so we bought. Paid $275K for 2100 sf and 2.5 acres. Since then we've finished the basement and added a bedroom (w/ egress window). Below grade sf dosent count as living area here, even if finished, but we're hoping it will still give enough of a value boost that we can at minimum break even when we sell next summer. Judging by how the market has looked since we bought, I think it's likely we'll come out ahead. Either way, a break even after 2.5 yrs beats throwing away $30K+ on rent for the same amount of time. Kind of weird a finished basement isn't considered living area. |
