If you were going to build a street legal rally inspired tribute vehicle what platform would you start with?

As crazy as it sounds probably a new corvette of the highest trim and power
Group B needs to come back already 2000 hp, active aero, mid engine with a supercharger and turbos, 200 mph on dirt roads. Boy it sure would be nice |

Depends on what type of rally. Navigation, Dakkar, WRC?
2004 Subaru WRX STi or Lexus GX460 (LC Prado) |

2nd post nailed it. I was also going to post a Lancia, but a Stratos.

And my son just got his first car/project an 02 Mitsu Lancer ... gonna be fun watching him |

You know what's fun about rally cars? They have to be road registered and insured pursuant to competition rules. I took my rally car to work a few times.

Rally vehicles are by their nature, required to be "street legal", so I'm not sure I understand that caveat. These are road legal and registered for public driving, even Rally Raid as transits (on public roads) are required outside of the competition special stages. Attached File Attached File Attached File But actual works units or homologation models certainly aren't tributes. Attached File NMP If I were to construct a rally "tribute", prolly wouldn't be a car - JCO's '88 Dakar entry YZE 750 above or the year earliers FZT 900. A tribute would allay the concerns I'd have for authenticity. One guy I wish I would've have had the luck to meet |

(snip) View Quote It’s a defined boundary for those who don’t know and would be inclined to think in terms of “race car” or similar. We all know how GD can be at times. There are a couple of cars that I am already chasing but I’ve had no luck. Admittedly I haven’t been willing to travel much or purchase vehicles sight unseen. I’d like a chrome bumper C3 Corvette (good condition driver) and an 3rd gen G-Body Monte Carlo SS (to gut and build with a manual transmission, tubular suspension, aluminum door panels, etc.). I’m finding lots of the “I know what I’ve got” sellers who are looking for fools with money. The more options I have the more luck I usually have. I had spent a number of years gathering the parts necessary to build a VW Golf/Rabbit Mk1 rally tribute. I eventually decided that one VW would be enough and sold off the parts. |
