View Quote Bahahaha. I drove mine just like that. Bought it out of salvage and repaired it when I was 18. Had 90k miles on it. When I sold it with 130k I bet almost 1/2 of what I added were track miles. Between instructing for NASA, SSCA, BMWCCA and racing, I was at the track 30 weekends of the year. Man those were fun times. So many shenanigans. Those cars weren't fast, but they were magical. They'd easily pull right into the rev limiter in 5th, too. About 10 years ago I built one for a friend/customer with a de-bored, solid lifter, S52. It made 320hp at 2300lbs, wet. The most fun car I've ever driven. It ate everything on the track. These days I live in the snow. I was just talking this AM with a customer about building a Carrera 4 with a ski rack, skid plates, lights and a mild lift. 911's are amazing in the snow and dirt. That would be my choice. |

I’d do that. Or if a had $$$, Porsche. |

Quoted: It's a defined boundary for those who don't know and would be inclined to think in terms of "race car" or similar. We all know how GD can be at times. There are a couple of cars that I am already chasing but I've had no luck. Admittedly I haven't been willing to travel much or purchase vehicles sight unseen. I'd like a chrome bumper C3 Corvette (good condition driver) and an 3rd gen G-Body Monte Carlo SS (to gut and build with a manual transmission, tubular suspension, aluminum door panels, etc.). I'm finding lots of the "I know what I've got" sellers who are looking for fools with money. The more options I have the more luck I usually have. I had spent a number of years gathering the parts necessary to build a VW Golf/Rabbit Mk1 rally tribute. I eventually decided that one VW would be enough and sold off the parts. So something built, not necessarily for comp (so no need to go through, from shell prep to safety) and not an original homologation unit. But tricked out a bit. I've spent a fair amount of time in Mk1s, always enamored - woulda been fun, shame it didn't happen. |

Quoted: May as well start with the most dominant marque in rallying, even thirty years since their last race - Lancia. I'd then build it off an old Ferrari platform and get this: https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/roa090119fea-stratos-2-1568480076.jpg View Quote That is straight dope right there. |

Quoted: @southerncross What is that car? View Quote Its a Nissan Juke Nismo RS. They didn't make a ton of them and they're uglier than homemade sin, but its fun to drive and all I could figure to do with mine was Bilstein coilovers/mud flaps for the rally look and everything I could bolt to the engine including a larger turbo. |
