I still need to head up north, what I've been told is that north of Rome is nice, south is the 'hood.

Kind of jealous. I spent about 2 weeks in Italy a few years ago, but we did all the sight seeing. I wanted to see the real Italy and not all the tourist spots. I need to find me some family over there and visit sometime.

I know some Italians.  They eat pasta for every meal from what they have told me.

This thread is hilarious.

I love Italian food.  There is a resturant in Verruchio, which is just west of Rimini, called La Rocca.  We ate there several times the last time I was in Italy.  If you are a meat lover I highly reccomend it.  There was a group of about five people I was with and the service is family style where they just bring you plates of food and you eat what you want.

They brought out some pasta to start with and we ate that and thought that was all we were getting.  The waiter came out (he spoke perfect English) brought some little plate of cheese and some dipping sauces and asked if we were ready for the next course and what wine we would like.  Confused, we said yeah sure, but bring beer not wine.  We were all wondering what the plate of cheese was for and joking that we had better eat it or starve.  Well the plate of meat that they brought out to us was mind boggling.  Prime rib, strip steaks, filets, 1" thick pork chops, italian saugages, grilled chicken breasts.  Just a big pile of meat.  Enough meat to feed 20 people.  We wound up eating there every other day.  It was expensive, but worth every penny my company paid for it.

They're definitly experiencing an overeating problem here in Italy; something I never noticed 10+ years ago.
