Eventually problems like Pakistan have to be solved. Managing them only kicks the ball down the road for someone else.

Could someone explain to me why Pakistan has F16s and India has Migs?  Shouldn't that be reversed?  We sold Pakistan F16s?
India was "non-aligned",meaning vaguely favorable to the Soviets. Pakistan had favorable relations with the US and had been supplied with F-86s and F-104s previously. It got F-16s after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Some were impounded and never delivered but the Whur on Turruh gave them leverage to receive more, some formerly Dutch ones too, with the US telling them not to use them vs India in the same way as a parent telling their child not to shoot their sister with a squirt gun. The US doesn't want Pakistan to become a 100% Chinese client so it makes some moral compromises, like losing the war in Afghanistan;on the US government's Facebook page its relationship status with them is "it's complicated".

India is no first use, so they'd need to be nuked first.

Kinda wondered why any country would claim NFU. It limits your diplomacy, to your point.

US is not NFU

Africa is already a bunch of wars.  Nothing to see there.  Just idiots firing AK's in every direction with RPGs thrown in for good measure.

"If intense warfare broke out tomorrow, India could supply its troops with only 10 days of ammunition, according to government estimates. And 68 percent of the army’s equipment is so old, it is officially considered “vintage.”

India has a standing army of about 1.4 million. Pakistan has a standing army of about 654,000. If India is able to get beans, bullets and soldiers to the fight, Pakistan could be in for a world of hurt. If India did truly score a Paki F-16 to their downed MiG, I'd say they won that round.

Sounds like the Pakistanis and Indians are attempting to (and succeeding to a large extent) at keeping a lid on acquisition and dissemination of info, photos, and video.  If not much news is able to come out, an event like this would probably look pretty boring and slow from our perspective.

I agree too. A third gen fighter with some modest upgrades can still present a threat.. even in the era of reliable BVR missiles. With that said, I'm starting to think the tactical situation forced the MiG-21s who were probably closer to the threats to react as opposed to the more effective Su-30s.

I hope more data comes out at some point..

NEW DELHI — It was an inauspicious moment for a military the United States is banking on to help keep an expanding China in check.

An Indian Air Force pilot found himself in a dogfight last week with a warplane from the Pakistani Air Force, and ended up a prisoner behind enemy lines for a brief time.
The pilot made it home in one piece, however bruised and shaken, but the plane, an aging Soviet-era MiG-21, was less lucky.
