Is there another gun company that has allowed them self to become more irrelevant than colt? Even through all the bankruptcy and corporate buy outs, Remington still makes a popular shotgun. Colt seems like they're holding on for dear life.

Is Remington making anything anymore? I didn't think the factories were up and going anymore.
Bushmaster. Use to be one of the Big Three. A go to company for the AR user. |
|
Weatherby...
If I want a Howa, I just buy a Howa, and their flagship stuff is meh at best. |

Winchester. Classic American rifles sold by tradition and nostalgia, made in Japan by people who can never own one.

the Colt thing is a non-starter. They'll always have a market for their revolvers and 1911s, and for a while longer yet anyway a market for guys who want a Colt AR like they carried in service.

I almost showed my age by rattling off a list of companies from the 1970's and 80's.
Ehh, nevermind. |

Olympic Arms. Was a sad day when they turned the lights off.
Marlin. The original company that made so many wonderful waffle top lever guns with deep bluing and walnut. H&R/NEF. Those single shot guns with the extra barrel program they offered was great. |

Quoted: USFA after releasing that turd of a gun called the Zip-22 View Quote People still want Colt designs. Nobody wants that piece of shit ZIP-22 I feel sorry for the people that worked for that dumbass. How many had good manufacturing jobs while they were making a demanded SAA pistol - and then had to go looking for work elsewhere immediately after It’s true Colt hasn’t done anything innovative in a long time . All older designs. But then neither have any other gun manufacturers except maybe Sig over the last 25 years. Mostly just cosmetic changes |

“Winchester” is just a trademarked name that is whored out by Olin Corp. to whomever wants to market guns or Chinese junk under that once prestigious name.

Ithaca. I actually had to double check to see if they were still in business, although it seems like they are really only trying to cater to hunting market now.

Bushmaster, Armalite and Rock River were big names in the AR world 15-ish years ago.

Noveske
The most innovation they have done lately is a water gun. Not kidding. |

Not a manufacturer, but the NRA. Calling them useless would be an upgrade for them. The only purpose they serve now is as the big boogeyman for the left. That takes the heat off the groups actually getting work done so that is something but on their own? Useless.

Quoted: Bushmaster, Armalite and Rock River were big names in the AR world 15-ish years ago. View Quote "Ban Era Businesses". They were the go to for LE during those years, and immediately after until other manufacturers could get going. Ruger was so close to becoming one of these companies, then they released the LCP. Did a 180 on Bill's distain for civilian martial arms and became a go to budget manufacturer. Remington was just like them, but decided to stay the course and ride it into irrelevancy . Kimber, everyone who didn't want to spend on a Colt wanted a Kimber back in the day. I don't think Magpul has gone down hill at all, its just there's a lot more competition in the same marketplace these days. |

I remember Spikes being the hot shit around here when I joined.

I hate to say it, because I still think the model 70 is an objectively better action than the 700 and always will be, but Winchester/Browning are pretty irrelevant to anyone but a certain group of hunters who still think A Bolts are something special and not just shiny turds with gold triggers. They remind me of Harley owners. The only thing keeping Browning relevant at all is their sporting shotguns, IMO. Not because they're the best or anything particularly special but they fill a niche of shotgun demand that no one else really does, particularly to the extent that they do.
ETA: I really like the Browning rain jacket I bought this year Another similarity with HD. I wonder how much revenue share Browning gets from branded clothing compared to firearms. |
