Seems like ammo has been insulated from falling prices in the gun industry. Everything else seems to have come back down to pre-COVID, but ammo never recovered. If you are in the market, are you buying now, or waiting for falling prices that may never come?

Don't really care if you have 10,000 rounds you got for $200 a case. New gun owners are born every day, and they need ammo.

Has been for quite a while.  Even before 2020, at the big box stores, its was hovering around 40cpr after taxes.

There are a lot of conflicts going on right now, I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with it. Even if the ammunition isn't being diverted, the need for the same raw materials will probably put upwards pressure on the cost to produce.

Import bans, rising global tensions and bidenflation means just under 50c is the best deal now, and has been for several years.

Next year things will get better, or worse, lets see!

You will never see .22 bread case 5.56 again on the retail market.

Reloading it right now, assuming free cases, you're looking at like $0.35/round probably, $0.30-$0.40 based on how you got the components.

Some of us just like to go down the road to the BLM land and shoot cow patties or the occasional ground squirrel.  Don't need no bougie ammo for that.

Haven't been keeping much of a log, but did seem to be falling slightly then election season happened.

Yes.

Between election year, inflation, and global wars the only direction prices are moving is up.

There is a possibility that with a Trump second term we'll get some salad again but I'm not holding my breath.

"Good" deals for the new age can be found, especially in bulk. Pmc ammo for around 43cpr shipped. But yeah around 50cpr seems normal now.

I'm still buying. The price isn't what it was, but I actually shoot and rotate my ammo fort so. I supplement with my reloads.

At least there's ammo to be found. I've gone through several droughts now, since 2008, so I stock up and keep buying when a good deal springs up.

I'm not ordering in case upon case like in 2012, but I still buy.

Funny enough Winchester was running rebates this time last year.  Got price per round under .30 if I remember right.

I think it will be in the $0.45/rd range for decent quality XM193 via ammoseek.
You will have to decide if it is worth it to jump up to PSA SMK which is currently $0.65/rd at PSA.

Oddly enough, 300blk (and I'm sure other calibers) went through this.

Early on, Hornady use to sell 200 round ammo boxes V-max for about $130.00 ($.65/rd). If you were lucky, you could find FMJ's of any brand for $0.50-$0.55/rd.  Outside of the Aussie BOGO, or some other crazy sell, it just made sense to buy the Vmax.

Same thing is currently going on now.  125gr and 150gr PSA FMJ is $0.60/rd.   110g PSA V-max and the PSA/Sabre 110gr Blacktips are $0.65-$0.70/rd (depending on buying as pack or case).   PSA (Hornady) 220gr OTM's are $0.80/rd.   Basically, zero reason to my FMJ's these days unless you can find a screaming deal.

Value of the dollar is down, takes more dollars to buy the same thing.

2019, #36 was $7.95 at the VN place, it is now $13 or $14.95.

I'm pretty much only buying this stuff if 55 grain is gonna stay around 50 cents per. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test it other than a mag or two each range trip because I prefer to shoot up old stuff. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the ass.

For 556 this is certainly the way I look at it.

9mm fmj is decently priced to stack but I just bought some Norma 85gr HP stuff for the same as fmj. It's one of the only HPs that feed reliable in my akv but and cheap enough to blast considering it's probably junk if that cheap.

This is a gun forum, so yes, I’m referring to gun items.

Guns themselves, accessories, optics, magazines, etc. are all at non-panic pricing and average for the last decade or so.

I have plenty of m193.

I’ve always hand loaded heavier stuff for accuracy. It doesn’t make sense now though. I might load 25 rounds of 77TMK for deer season. Otherwise, nah, my kids are cutting their teeth on AAC 5.56. I’m shooting it cheaper than I can reload it.

I think it's due to conflicts also.

I remember an online vendor showing 99+ in stock $450 per 1,000 rounds and it never changed. I thought they might actually reduce the price for whatever sale.
Then one day out of stock. Considering the timing I thought it was bought up and sent to Ukraine.

PSA is legit doing awesome work. Companies like BearFag have shit quality and no support.

PSA is doing arms and ammo right.

My secret hope is that THEY get a competitor.
