FOD was excellent, as were many other sports related movies, but I always felt that this one should be "required viewing".
Rollerball Official Trailer #1 - James Caan Movie (1975) HD |

Nothing with kevin costner in it especially as lead, can ever be "best". And amazingly the woman that plays his wife is an even worse actor than costner.

Two films come to mind when sports movies come up and I don't know their names:
1. Charlie Sheen baseball movie. 2. The guy from the TV show "Quantam Leap" in a football movie with Kathy Ireland as the kicker. |

Fuck no. It’s barely a sports movie at all and probably not even the fifth or sixth best movie about baseball.
Slap Shot is the best sports movie. |

I own Field of Dreams on DVD and have watched it a number of times. It's a feel-good movie, but in no way do I consider it a sports movie. It's really about a man coming to grips with his past and the poor way he treated his Father. The voices in this movie are the same as the Ghosts who visit Scrooge in the Charles Dickens book "A Christmas Carol". The baseball field is really only the central set for the story and a vehicle for Kevin Costner's redemption, similar to the redemption of Scrooge. There was very little actual baseball play in this movie. Very little. It isn't a sports movie.
And it's somewhat left-wing as well. They perfectly set up the scene in the school so one woman could come across as a nut and the wife gets to call her a Nazi cow. And James Earl Jones character is a very liberal writer in hiding and gets to complain about Nixon and the voting public in general. Subtle but definite ways to bring politics into a movie that needed no such references. My own preferences for sports moves are. Baseball Movies: For the Love of the Game with Kevin Costner. Mr. Baseball with Tom Selleck Major League Football Movies: Friday Night Lights The Replacements Rudy North Dallas Forty Boxing Movies: Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe Rocky Rocky 3 Hockey: Slap Shot Miracle Cycling Movies: Breaking Away American Flyers Basketball Movies: None. Basketball sucks (personal preference only and your opinion may vary) |

Fuck no.
Strange Brew - Hockey Strange Brew is the greatest sports movie of all time. Mainly because all sports movies suck. |

What about RAD? what about Rollerball? What about Lords Of Dogtown? Aren't those sports?

The Karate Kid
Rocky (both directed by John Avildsen) or Hoosiers |

For Love of the Game
Bull Durham Field of Dreams The Kevin Costner triple play. |

Bull Durham is better.
“I’ve got brains, but you’ve got talent. See this arm? It’s worth a million dollars. All my limbs put together aren’t worth nineteen cents a pound.” |
|
Just a few off the top of my head that are better, but it is a great movie.
Rudy, Miracle, The Sandlot, Moneyball, Hoosiers, maybe Remember the Titans. Edot because I forgot boxing/fighting movies. Cinderella Man, Rocky, and maybe Warrior as well. |

Division III: Football's Finest - Locker Room Speech |

Dodgeball - If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball |

I'm sure I'll be the odd man out, but I'm partial to Cinderella Man.
