According to GPS tracking systems, Russian nuclear submarines of projects 955 Borey, 955A Borey-A and 949A Antey started leaving their permanent base starting as early as the beginning of November. Neither the Russian Defence Ministry nor the russian Navy have released any official comments on the details of such a massive manoeuvre conducted by Russian nuclear submarines at sea.

Yeah, but where are they going? Surely not to the South China Sea?
Sending the Oscars makes sense, those are fleet killers. Putting another Borei to sea makes no sense, those are kinda valuable platforms, that's odd that they would send something like that as a show of force. And undoubtedly NATO assets are already tracking them.
There's also no mention of specific numbers I've been able to find. Russia has two Boreis and three Oscar IIs operating out of Vilyuchinsk. I would guess that at least one of each is already on patrol somewhere out in the ocean. It's not a lot of boats, it's not like they're sending the entire Russian Navy submarine fleet, but there is a lot of killing power there, especially the Oscars if employed against a surface fleet.
