The issue with JW2 was that it lessened the character of John Wick.
If too many people do what he does and he is so evenly matched with Common's character, it makes John less remarkable.
And instead of being a principled follower of a code as he was in the first, he now became a guy who owes his entire retirement to a debt that he never intended to pay.

I agree. Not to mention that during the subway car showdown, John Wick was already shot, stabbed, wounded to shit, no sleep, etc. and he still kicked his ass.
And while I'm here, I'll submit that I really enjoyed number two. It was entertaining as hell, though not as mind blowing as the original. Lawrence Fishburne's character was THE most annoying thing in the whole film for me.
