Quoted: To allow for longer / heavier 350+ grain hardcast bullets, if I ever feel like it. Not sure I ever will load monsters like that, but why not? ETA: If I recall correctly, I don't think he had to mill out the frame for length. I wanted him to re-cut the forcing cone on the barrel and set the gap at less than .002. I think he shortened the barrel slightly, and made up for it with a longer cylinder. If you look at a standard .45 Blackhawk, the barrel sticks through the frame a bit, and the cylinder doesn't "fill" the whole frame window. On mine, the barrel barely sticks through the frame and the cylinder fills the whole window. View Quote Gotcha. I'd like to go the opposite direction w/ a 9x19mm to reduce freebore and DA pull. |

To shoot long bullets, like 160 grain Bayou roundnose bullets, I have to use .38 Special cases. Loaded in .357 cases, they are too long. I've put something like 30,000 175 powerfactor .38 Special loads through this old gun. One of my favorites guns of all times. It's a late 60s gun, that I bought as a shoebox full of parts. Quoted: That’s really good looking View Quote Thanks! Unfortunately it might be heading back to Ruger unless I can figure out an issue it has. For some reason when you push on the ejector rod, the center lock pin rod pushes off to the side and binds up the front cylinder latch so you can't close the cylinder. To fix it, you have to push in the ejector rod halfway and push the front latch back into its recess in the crane. I'm going to tear into it a little and see if anything is obviously wrong before I call Ruger about it. I like the gun, but this is rather disappointing. |
