Found this video just now and it's an example of a classic song played with a classic instrument. Can anyone offer anything similar to old school "nursery rhyme" jews harp songs?

View Quote First, Texans back in the day referred to this as a Juice Harp. After seeing it for the first time, I assumed it was thusly monikered due to the amount of spittle expelled while playing it. Second, I am deeply.......deeply disturbed by that video. She is nuttier than squirrel turds. (but she is pretty solid on that juice harp ) |

Bob La Beau "Turkey in the Straw" Live think he messed up on his 2nd verse but he echoed the tooth issue lol im not looking to learn to play but just to enjoy a not so popular instrument |

im starting to see after some research that it is being revived by the eclectic "mother earth would never harm us" hippie type.
i overlooked the fact that this is a simple instrument which usually means older; therefore the interest from the hippie "townsends"x100 types. im requesting more of the Americana jews harp music, but post any you enjoy. |

"Jews harp"?? I've never seen or been told anything but "Juice harp", which I always assumed was related to the spittle that invariably became intermixed.

View Quote lol its a colloquialism. im seeing "jew's harp," "mouth harp" and "jAw harp" depends on who youre around. i have no idea on the actual history of the instrument. i suspect that will keep me up a little later tonight. |

Saving the jaw harp: Varun Zinje a.k.a. Morchangwala at TEDxEMWS skip ahead to the last 4 minutes or so. then, the last :30 or so he speaks through it as he plays it. pretty neat for a single note instrument |

Hearing "turkey in the straw" in that first video reminded me of hearing "zip coon" being played at Civil War reenactments when I was growing up. Check out 2nd South Carolina String Band if you like the old tunes. Those guys really have talent.

The thing I like more is that they’re made so you can just push against your lips. You don’t need to bite into it with your teeth like you do a jew harp. They’re also cheaper. |
