The analogy to the US is not the president, but the flag. But a monarch can be used to wine and dine the rich and powerful to the advantage of Britain (but domestically politically neutral). If Charles can't fulfill this role the monarchy will be diminished further to just a tourist novelty, which it is already very god at. He wasn't picked for been weak, if anything it will be his inability to shut up and stay out the way that is his biggest potential liability. |

Brits are upset because they’re being asked to pledge allegiance to the new king during the coronation. It’s new (at least for this part of English history).
