View Quote Depends on your definition of "long"; both his parents almost made it to 100, and his grandmother made it to 101. No guarantees he'll live that long but it looks like genetics (and tons of money) are on his side. (He's 74.) |

I really don't know why they still have a monarchy in Great Britain.
I mean, look at Charles. Why would they make him king? Seriously. The guy is a supremely privileged idiot and inbreed of the first order. I'm thinking someone wants him in this capacity to sway the people at the right time because he is weak. |

GD hates the British Monarchy but the ironic thing is that more freedoms have been taken by Parliament in the 20th century than any monarchy did in the past
And Parliament was the force during the American revolution The monarchy was not as powerful as parliament even back then. |

View Quote Why would a Hindu want to pray, and recognize Jesus as the image of God, the firstborn over all creation? FYI - this coronation confirms Charles as the head of the Church of England. Hindus are not Christians. They're very different religions. |

View Quote The monarchy has not had any real power for a long long time. The old queen perfectly defined the role for as a symbol, a head of state without any real power. The analogy to the US is not the president, but the flag. But a monarch can be used to wine and dine the rich and powerful to the advantage of Britain (but domestically politically neutral). If Charles can't fulfill this role the monarchy will be diminished further to just a tourist novelty, which it is already very god at. He wasn't picked for been weak, if anything it will be his inability to shut up and stay out the way that is his biggest potential liability. |

Its really a pledge to a symbol of the country, that's what the monarch is.
Its not really a big deal and remember they don't have a written constitution. (We don't really either at this point, sadly) |

Quoted: There's always someone to be pissed off about something.... View Quote I don’t pay any attention to the royal family but did read OP’s article. The article isn’t about the $100 million price tag. Brits are upset because they’re being asked to pledge allegiance to the new king during the coronation. It’s new (at least for this part of English history). From the article: “Asking people to swear allegiance to Charles and his heirs means swearing allegiance to Andrew. In a democracy it is the head of state who should swear allegiance to us. This is an offensive and tone-deaf gesture that holds the people in contempt.” I can see where this new tradition is ruffling some feathers. |
