The MG42 thread went well, so let's try this again. Full size Uzi, going to try TIG welding this time. Starting with this parts kit: https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/389530/Uzi_Kit_jpg-1069293.JPG I think I'm going to use this repair section https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/UZI-REPAIR-SECTION-80-RECEIVER-161p4277.htm even though it has a blocking bar I can mill that off. I'm still deciding but I will likely use the rear section from the kit because it has decent markings on it. On the other hand it would be simpler just to weld the front on. For those of you that have welded one, jig or no jig? The design is fairly forgiving as far as geometry goes but I don't want to warp it during welding either. I have to get a threaded barrel too.... View Quote I was also thinking about saving the markings, but just went ahead and use the whole repair section. I didnt use a jig an mine went fine (once I remembered that I might need a feed ramp ) ETA- I did have a slight problem getting the front straight so the bolt didnt drag on the barrel. Ended up just cutting the weld off one side and bending it till it was straight. No big problem |

I would agree but it can be done without a jig. Put together this parts set with the reciever that has the rear section on it. I MIG welded it and it doesnt look too bad except where the blocking bar welds are, didn't use enough power at first. Took a few whacks to the top cover to adjust bolt clearance, after that function has been 100%. However I did have my model A to measure off of and compare to when building. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/274423/20170815_123653_jpg-1069690.JPG View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I think I'm gonna spring for the jig especially since I might do more in the future. |

Part 1 kinda had nothing to do with part 2 and he ended up heating it with a torch to straighten it out because he didn't use a jig. Makes me want to use a jig lol. |

Man, if you had months to build an Uzi, you could do it from scratch with nothing but a hacksaw, some files, a vise, and a hammer... and of course plenty of steel stock. Totally different magnitude than building an MG42, it seems like some people don't understand that. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Does anyone know who's got the semi auto spring thing and buffer in stock? I think that's all I need to finish my semi.

I had a conversion manual years ago! They used a breaker bar and notched ratchet to remove the bar.
torque it back and forth a few times and it comes right off. |

Has anyone done a mini Uzi? How are the receiver builds different? Can you use a full size and mini repair section and you are GTG?
I know the internals are different, but I am concerned for the receiver. And before someone points out I am from Ca., I own a house in Lake Havasu on the American side. |

I saw a bunch of cut up UZI's at a gun show a while back but I had to pass because I knew that I couldn't fix them and I could only hope that someone that could fix them would buy them.

Not off to a great start with the RTG repair section. The jig won't fit with their blocking bar
Attached File I guess they welded it in too low. I have to cut it out anyway but it should fit. Also the jig is supposed to include both a semi auto and SMG alignment dowel, mine has two semi auto ones so I have to ask for the right part to be sent out. Dammit. |
|
So I complained to RTG about the receiver not fitting their own jig and they said they know the welds suck and I have to fix it myself. When I said that was crap they told me I'm too picky, locked my account, and said they can't make a one off just for me.
Wow. The dude keeps repeating it's the highest quality repair section yet they're aware it doesn't fit their jig. Then he talks to me like I'm too stupid to understand. Worst customer servive ever smh |

Wow, RTG has always had great customer service in my experience. I mostly dealt with a lady (assumed it was his wife). I had the wrong push pin shipped with an order. She told me to keep the wrong one and she would ship me another. She shipped two and an aluminum g3 mag with a hand written note apologizing for the mix up.
I've met Robert at gun show and he has hooked me up with some good deals. Must be getting grumpy in his old age. |

Anyway I ground one of the welds off the front and the whole thing popped right off. Cheaply done is right. |

With the blocking bar cut off now I can see the jig doesn't fit under the rear sight "ear" either.
Junk. |
